Karl Bernhard Dall (born February 1, 1941 in Emden , East Friesland ) is a German television presenter , singer , actor and comedian .

origin

Karl Dall was born the son of a school principal and a teacher. In tenth grade he left middle school and did an apprenticeship as a typesetter in the Rautenberg printing works in Leer . Its distinctive appearance with the "drooping" right eye is the result of a congenital weakness of the eyelid muscles ( ptosis ).

Career

In 1967 he founded the comedian group Insterburg & Co. with Ingo Insterburg , Jürgen Barz and Peter Ehlebracht , of which he was a member until the late 1970s. The quartet became widely popular through the Radio Bremen Musikladen series . After Insterburg & Co. was dissolved, Dall immediately began a solo career as a stage artist and also worked for television. In 1979 he appeared in several episodes in the WDR production of Plattenküche as the canteen cook "Karl Toffel" in numerous skits . In the program presented by Kurt and Paola Felix Do you understand fun? , which was broadcast in the first program of the ARD , he was represented from 1983 to 1990 among other things as a chaotic projectionist and fun phone operator.

Dall presented a stupid show on the German radio program of Radio Luxemburg . In the regional television program Südwest 3 he had developed his form of nonsense conversation during the “Brettl Talk”. When RTLplus was looking for a successor to ARD's Mike Krüger at the end of 1984 , who had also presented a stupid talk show on RTL's early evening program, Dall was an obvious choice. On January 19, 1985, his show Dall-As premiered; from August 31, 1985 until the end of 1991 it was broadcast every 14 days in the station's late-night program. One of the highlights of the format, the concept of which was to irritate and provoke guests, is Dall's saying to Roland Kaiser : "Well, sing now, so that we can get it over with," whereupon he left the show angrily. He called the Wildecker Herzbuben "Wildecker Speckbuben". He asked another guest: “What is your main job as a hairdresser?” After switching to Sat.1 , Dall continued the program there on January 4, 1992 under the title Jux und Dallerei . A lawsuit by the TV broadcaster RTL against Sat.1 because of content overlaps was dismissed.

From 1991 onwards, Dall presented the show Koffer Hoffer on Tele 5 for two years . In 1996 he was a member of the initial ensemble of the program 7 Days, 7 Heads on RTL produced by Rudi Carrell . Differences between Carrell, who generally planned his programs meticulously , and the spontaneous Dall led to the fact that he left the ensemble in 1997.

He also moderated the programs Karls Kneipe (1997), The Karl Dall Show (1999–2000) and Kabel 1 Do you know? The retro quiz (2003-2004). In mid-September 2006, Dall's autobiography was published with the title Eye to and through . In October 2012, Dall celebrated the premiere of the one-man play The Grandpa by Icelandic author Bjarni Haukur Thorsson. It was the first time that Dall was on stage for a play. From May 2015 to October 2016 Dall was on the road with his last live program The old man wants even more , in which he showed a cross-section of all decades of his work.

In September 2016, the broadcaster Tele 5 broadcast the twelve-episode documentary soap Old Guys on Tour (OGOT). Four former show masters ( Jörg Draeger , Frederic Meisner , Björn-Hergen Schimpf , Harry Wijnvoord ) wanted to walk the Way of St. James within 21 days . Dall was the tour guide, presenter and commentator during the multi-week TV hike.

Karl Dall repeatedly recorded singles, some of which successfully entered the charts. The piece This disc is a hit can be understood as a parody of the fast-moving pop music business ("This disc is a hit - when will you finally hear it? You have to cook this disc, it's a disc for the stupid") . The piece was sung by Dall alone, but recorded with the assistance of Insterburg & Co.

Other successful titles were Millions of Women Love Me , Today I pour myself in and The oldest popper in town . In terms of style, Dalls recordings are mainly assigned to the genre "Blödelschlager". Dall usually speaks more than he sings, and overall he seems a bit nervous. Lyrically, he ironically pokes fun at himself and his environment, often flirting with characters who consider themselves very attractive and successful, but who actually only bake small rolls.

One exception was the CD Oops, now I come , on which Dall interpreted old sailor and home songs from Hamburg, including songs by Hans Albers . Since 2005 he has performed again with Ingo Insterburg .

family

Karl Dall has been married to Barbara Dall since 1971. He has a daughter, Janina Dall, who works as a stunt woman in Canada, is married to Jovan Nenadic and from whose relationship a granddaughter comes. He has two sisters and a brother named Otto Dall (* 1938), who held the chair for technology and its didactics II at the Technical University of Dortmund from 1988 to 2003 . Karl Dall lives in the Hamburg district of Eppendorf .

Alleged rape and acquittal

On September 19, 2014, the Zurich public prosecutor brought charges against Dall on charges of rape and attempted coercion of a Swiss journalist. Dall denied the allegations made by the journalist with a criminal record for stalking . The process ended in an acquittal for Dall, which became final in late July 2015 as the plaintiff withdrew her appeal.
