Lore Lorentz
Lore Lorentz (born September 12, 1920 in Moravská Ostrava , German Mährisch-Ostrau , Czechoslovakia ; † February 22, 1994 in Düsseldorf ) was a German cabaret artist and chanson interpreter.
Life
Lore Lorentz, née Schirmer, studied history, German literature and philosophy in Vienna and Berlin after graduating from high school. In Berlin she met the student Kay Lorentz , whom she married in 1944. With her husband, she founded the first German post-war cabaret Das Kom (m) ödchen in Düsseldorf in 1947 without any knowledge of the theater . Lore Lorentz made her stage debut in 1947 with the program Positiv against it .
Until 1983 she was part of the Kom (m) ödchen ensemble and also gave solo programs, for example in 1980 Lore Lorentz presented the Pürkels and Eine Schöne Geschichte . Many of their programs were also broadcast on television, mostly as a production by WDR . In the 1950s, Lore Lorentz appeared on the radio program of the WDR every now and then in operetta productions conducted by Franz Marszalek (e.g. as Anna Iwanowna with the well-known "Brandy Song" from Goetzes Adrienne ).
In the press she was referred to as the “grande dame of German cabaret” and the “prima ballerina assoluta of political satire”. She was one of the most important figures in political-literary cabaret. Her particular strengths were the spoken word and an excellent feeling for timing - artfully placed pauses in the lyrics.
In 1976, together with her husband Kay Lorentz, she refused to accept the Federal Cross of Merit “with a friendly and grateful determination”.
From 1976 to 1978 Lore Lorentz taught chansons, songs and musicals at the Folkwang School in Essen. After she left the Kom (m) ödchen ensemble in 1983, she devoted herself to solo programs, but returned to the Kom (m) ödchen after the death of Kay Lorentz in 1993 to take over its direction.
Thirteen months after her husband, Lore Lorentz died in 1994 of complications from pneumonia. Her grave is next to that of her husband in the Heerdt cemetery in Düsseldorf.
