Heinrich Heine Society
The Heinrich Heine Society e. V. in Düsseldorf is a literary society that has set itself the task of " conveying the work of Heinrich Heine and the related time-critical concerns to a broader public" (according to self-presentation).

The Heine Society was founded in 1956 on the 100th anniversary of Heine's death on the initiative of Friedrich Maase (1878–1959) and Hans Müller-Schlösser (1884–1956) in Düsseldorf. As a declared aim, it supports Heine research, cooperates with the Düsseldorf Heinrich Heine Institute and promotes its Heine archive through new acquisitions. She is co-editor of the Heine yearbook . It works regionally, but also internationally through its cooperation with the French (Association des amis de Henri Heine) and American (North-American Heine Society) Heine societies. It has over 1,200 members. In 2006 the society was awarded the Hartmut Vogel Prize for Literature Mediation from the Working Group on Literary Societies and Memorials (ALG).
Honorary gift from the Heinrich Heine Society
Since 1965 the Heine Society has been awarding the undoped honorary gift of the Heinrich Heine Society as a literary prize at irregular intervals . It consists of the bronze book object Die Schere der Zensur by the artist Bert Gerresheim .
