Markus Sehr

Markus Sehr (born April 7, 1977 in Cologne ) is a German film director and screenwriter .

Life

After studying theater, film and television studies, political science, English studies and philosophy at the University of Cologne, he worked from 1999 to 2004 as a copywriter for the advertising agency Springer & Jacoby in Hamburg. In 2003 he took part in a filmmaking workshop at the New York Film Academy. From 2004 to 2007 he studied film directing at the ifs international film school in Cologne , which he completed with a Bachelor of Arts degree. His short films have been shown at various national and international film festivals . His graduation film Absolution celebrated its international premiere at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival .

Sehr made his feature-length film debut as a director in 2011 with the comedy An island called Udo , for which he also wrote the screenplay with Clemente Fernandez-Gil . Kurt Krömer and Fritzi Haberlandt played the leading roles . He presented his second movie in 2015 with Die Kleinen und die Böse , in which Christoph Maria Herbst , Peter Kurth and Anneke Kim Sarnau played the leading roles. In 2015 he received a nomination for the Metropolis directing award in the category "Best Director of Cinema" for his work .

In 2015 he wrote and directed for the comedy format Comedy Rocket . Thus, under Sehrs direction u. a. the episode “The First Time” , which was viewed over 18 million times on Facebook and Youtube alone .

In the television series Friesland , Sehr directed four films between 2016 and 2018. This was followed by two further collaborations with actress Fritzi Haberlandt on the ZDF television films Der Chef ist tot (2017) and Der Koch ist tot (2019). At the end of 2019, Sehr's first directorial work for the ARD Degeto series Harter Brocken appeared under the title Harter Brocken: The Secret Code .

With the first four episodes from Heiter bis tödlich: Between the lines , he first appeared as a director in a television series in 2013 . In 2017 he took over the direction of four episodes of the BR series Das Institut - Oase des Scheiterns , which won the German Comedy Prize 2018 in the category “Best Innovation”. In 2019 the series continued with another eight episodes directed by Sehr. In the same year he also directed five episodes of the final season of the German comedy series Pastewka .
