He followed its director Armin Petras in 2013 to the ensemble of the Schauspiel Stuttgart . In November 2004 Kurth was awarded the Rita Tanck Glaser Acting Prize of the Hamburg Cultural Foundation , and in 2014 he was named Actor of the Year by the theater magazine Theater heute .

In addition to his work at the theater, Peter Kurth regularly plays in German film and television productions, for example in the movies Good Bye, Lenin! (2003), Hallesche Kometen (2006), A Friend of Me (2006) or The Small and the Bad (2015). From 2011 to 2015 he could be seen in the Frankfurt Tatort team Steier and Mey as commissioner Erik Seidel. In 2014 Peter Kurth took on a leading role in a movie for the first time: In Die Kleinen und die Böse he embodies the asocial, brutal, but at the same time comical and in the end even in a certain way sympathetic prison brother Hotte. He also had a supporting role in the series Friesland , in which he played a suspect in a wheelchair.
