Thomas Stuber (born March 31, 1981 in Leipzig ) is a German film director and screenwriter .

Life

Thomas Stuber was born in Leipzig in 1981, where he also grew up. He passed his Abitur and did his community service. After several internships in the film industry, he worked in various German productions as a script / continuity from 2002 . From 2004 he studied at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg , in 2011 he graduated with a diploma in media / stage direction. In 2006 he won the award of the Württemberg film industry with the short film Es geht uns gut . His 60-minute third-year film Teenage Fear had its premiere in 2008 at the Berlinale . The film received the award for Best German Newcomer Film at the Sehsuchte International Student Film Festival . His graduation film, the black and white short film Of Dogs and Horses , was nominated for the First Steps Award , won the German Short Film Prize and the Student Oscar for the best foreign-language short film in silver. The script of the film was based on a short story by Clemens Meyer . With this he then wrote the scripts for the films Herbert and In den Gänge , which were nominated for the German Screenplay Prize in 2014 and 2015, respectively , In den Gänge won this award. Herbert , Stubers first full-length feature film, was shot in Leipzig in 2014. The character and milieu study is about a former boxer who fell ill with ALS . The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was released in German cinemas in March 2016. At the Kinofest Lünen 2015 the film received the main prize, the Lüdia , and at the German Film Prize 2016 it received three awards, including the silver Lola in the “Best Feature Film” category. The main actor Peter Kurth was honored as the best actor.

Stuber also works for television. The crime scene: Burned , which he directed, ran in numerous cinemas as a preview before it was first broadcast in 2015 and won the German TV crime award in 2016 . His television film A Man Under Suspicion premiered at the Munich Film Festival in 2016 .
