German short film award

The German Short Film Prize has been awarded on behalf of the Federal Government since 1956 for outstanding short films . In 2002, the regulations for the German Short Film Award were completely redesigned.

Rental and nomination categories

The prizes are awarded in five categories:

  • Feature films with a running time of up to 10 minutes;
  • Feature films with a running time of more than 10 to 30 minutes;
  • Animated films with a running time of up to 30 minutes;
  • Experimental films with a running time of up to 30 minutes;
  • Documentaries with a running time of up to 30 minutes.

In addition, an - optional - special prize is awarded.

Suggestion scheme

The prize is an important distinction , especially for young filmmakers . Eligible are short films according to the above categories that have been proposed by associations of German film, film academies or the jury . The respective Minister of State for Culture awards the prize. Two independent juries of experts decide on the award of the prize.

Prize declaration and prize money

The German Short Film Award in Gold is associated with a prize of 30,000 euros. The manufacturer receives 15,000 euros for the nomination. This prize money will be offset against the premium for a film prize in gold. The special prize is endowed with 20,000 euros. The bonus is to be used for film production or for project preparation.

Short film award on the go

As a result of the award ceremonies for each year, the nominated films for each year go on a cinema tour through German and international cinemas.
