A Better World is a television film from the crime series Tatort . Lars Kraume's film introduces Nina Kunzendorf and Joachim Król as the new Frankfurt investigative team Conny Mey / Frank Steier . The report produced by Hessischer Rundfunk was first broadcast on May 8, 2011 on Das Erste .

action

The confused Sven Döring accuses the attending doctors of wanting to kill his son Stefan, who has been in a coma for a year , because they want to switch off the machines because of brain death . He also accuses the young Mariam Sert, who found his son lying on the street after a traffic accident, of running into him and reports this to the present inspectors Steier and Mey, who then work together for the first time. The year old case is known to Styria.

Döring claims that the investigation was delayed because the investigating officer Seidel had a relationship with the young woman, and she is constantly putting Mariam under psychological pressure through stalking . Conny Mey and Frank Steier try to intervene unsuccessfully, but their hands are tied because there is still no murder victim. When the suspicion is confirmed, Steier confronts Döring and addresses the threats . It turns out that Seidel and the young woman actually had a relationship, even if it was just a one-off affair. Seidel's wife happened to overhear the conversation. Steier learns from Döring's sister that the only way to save the son from his father is death.

In the police station, Mariam Sert finally tells the truth. She was on her way home drunk, had to stop on a bridge to vomit, and the later victim spoke to her from a distance. Then a driver raced in his sports car, ran over the young man and fled. The young woman sat in her car and drove away. On the way home, she turned around after several minutes, drove back and called the rescue workers. Seidel kept secret the drunkenness so that the woman would not have any trouble because of her testimony. Seidel is suspended.

Meanwhile, Döring breaks into Mariam Sert's apartment and assaults her when she comes home. The young woman can flee. Döring is admitted to the psychiatric ward, but is released the next day for lack of abnormalities. When Stefan Döring dies in the hospital, his father goes crazy. He sneaks into the police headquarters and injures his friend Mariam and Inspector Steier with a knife in the hallway before he can be overpowered and arrested. Steier is brought to the hospital in a rescue helicopter for an emergency operation. Mey, Seidel and the head of the homicide are waiting in the hospital for news from the doctors. After the operation, which Steier survives, he is driven to the recovery room, where Mey holds the hand of the still anesthetized Steier.

reception

criticism

Because of the new cast, the reviews judged less the script than the newly cast team, for example Martin Eich in Welt Online called Conny Mey "the archetypal counterpart to Andrea Sawatzki's melancholy Charlotte singer ". He went on to say: “Mey and Steier, who is congenially embodied by Joachim Król, are a coincidental couple. Intellect and intuition, cranky distinction and proletarian charm - this combination has worked since the 1970s cult series Die 2 with Roger Moore and Tony Curtis and also in the ZDF production " Ein Fall für Zwei ", which has long since slipped below the dramaturgical and theatrical poverty line , [...] "

The Focus also praised: “At the beginning it is told quite well how Chief Inspector Conny Mey (Nina Kunzendorf) and Chief Inspector Frank Steier (Joachim Król) justify their television relationship. You are two who don't want to each other, but have to find each other dramatically. Two worlds collide. ” Tilmann P. Gangloff commented on evangelisch.de :“ In the 800th crime scene, Nina Kunzendorf, as Commissioner Conny Mey, confidently steals the show from her fellow campaigners. She gives the role so much attractiveness and charisma that the colleague seems almost autistic because of sheer introversion. It doesn't even need a murder. "

In TV Digital , however, it was said: “Script weaknesses that the crime thriller certainly has, amusing dialogues easily make up for it. When Król, alias Steier, dominates his colleague, 'You're so pissed off with me. If you really want to help people, then open a nail salon ', then you know: This is the beginning of a great friendship that makes you curious about the sequel. ”Carsten Heidböhmer criticized the unnecessarily dramatic finale in Stern after the episode "Long ripples [e]".
