action

The businessman Arno Berger is found shot dead after a party. At the scene of the crime, fingerprints are secured, which give Commissioner Thiel a great riddle: They come from the former State Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Rüdiger Klarbach, who died a year and a half earlier in a house fire in South Africa - and Prof. Boerne himself had established the identity at that time and the death certificate issued. Now it is in the room that Boerne could have committed a capital malpractice, and he is doing everything possible to get rid of this accusation.

Meanwhile, Thiel investigates in the immediate vicinity of the murder victim Berger. Berger was last seen alive at the birthday party of his business friend, the "potato emperor" Hans Lüdinghaus, at which prosecutor Klemm was also present. She is indignant when Thiel also wants to check Lüdinghaus' business and would put her hand on the fire for him. But then Klarbach, who was believed dead, appears at Lüdinghaus and demands 10 million from him and his business partners. Later he meets with his daughter Nele in the park. She was expecting a friend with whom she made friends over the Internet. When she sees her father instead, she is at first stunned and full of defensiveness. When they split up, however, she hugs him. Klarbach asked his daughter to explain everything to her mother and to ask if they could start over as a family.

It turns out that Klarbach's death was a fake. With the help of the tax office employee Leonie Krassnik, the business of Lüdinghaus is examined more closely and it turns out that the company Bulgaria Harvest in Bulgaria only exists on paper in order to save taxes. Berger, who was involved in the fraud and had been scared by the reappearance of Rüdiger Klarbach and would rather deliver himself to the knife, had to die. Klarbach, who had been bribed to participate in the whole story in his role as State Secretary and is now demanding 10 million for his silence, should also be eliminated.

When Klarbach wants to collect the hush money, his father-in-law Dr. Herbert appears out of nowhere and holds a gun to his head, then drives him with the rifle in front of him. Thiel and Boerne, who now know, follow the tracks in the forest. When the superintendent calls out the names of the two over and over again, Klarbach can take advantage of the element of surprise, overwhelm his father-in-law and snatch the rifle from him and flee. Thiel lets Dr. Monitor Herbert's house because he is sure that Klarbach will show up there. Dr. Herbert is picked up and arrested by Thiel and Boerne on the way. His attempt at bribery against Thiel fails, as does that of Lüdinghaus.

When Klarbach wanted to pick up his family at the villa, Nele suddenly refused to come and said she would stay with her grandpa. Her father explains to her that everything that happened was based on her grandfather's plan. He arranged it all and knew it from the start. Especially Margit Klarbach can hardly believe what she is hearing. When Thiel and Boerne together with Dr. Herbert arrive at his house, Margit Klarbach points a rifle at her father. All of a sudden she turns around and shoots at the aquarium that means everything to her father. Klarbach gets into a taxi lonely and lets himself be driven to the airport. Now he has lost his family for good.

With the help of his colleague Silke Haller, Boerne can clarify that the corpse, which he identified as Klarbach's, was that of a German emigrant whose dental records were forged. Boerne is reassured that he has not made a mistake. However, he still has to swallow a bitter pill: it turns out that the blackboard securities he had inherited from his father in the front company Bulgaria Harvest during the whole act (as a running gag ) in an aluminum case are completely worthless.

Reviews

“As almost always, if not only the team of investigators but also the script is correct, at some point it is no longer so important who is guilty of what and when. A murderer can be found where one does not suspect him, as well as a motive. It is important, and in this case it works extremely well, that Thiel and Boerne continue to circle around each other like two royal children. "

“Seldom did the different pitches in Münster's“ Tatort ”flow together as smoothly as in“ Gentlemen's Evening ”by Magnus Vattrodt (book) and Matthias Tiefenbacher (direction). Tempo, gag density and a good narrative rhythm leave little time to identify possible "inconsistencies" between joke and tragedy or to make other critical thoughts about the film. What gets stuck is the quality of many scenes. "

- Rainer Tittelbach : Tittelbach.tv

“The exaggerated play of its main characters is a quality that characterizes the Münster“ Tatort ”, for which its viewers love it more than anyone else. [...] But in the current case, clichés were overused. The light hand, the eloquent exchange of blows between the snob Boerne and the underdog Thiel - none of this was felt at this "crime scene". What had begun so promisingly dragged on too hard. [...] But something went wrong. Not even the title "Gentlemen's Evening" is self-explanatory. What a shame! Alberich alone has remained true to himself and has grown beyond himself. "

- Susanne Baller : stern.de

A geographic error was also viewed critically: When the question of the dubious company "Bulgaria Harvest" came up, it was said that it was located in "Northern Bulgaria, on the border with Moldova". In fact, the two countries do not border each other, rather Romania lies in between.
