Matthias Tiefenbacher (born March 24, 1962 in Heidelberg ) is a German theater and film director .

Life

Matthias Tiefenbacher initially studied philosophy, law and theater and literature at the Free University of Berlin. This was followed by studies at the Berlin University of the Arts in the fields of drama and visual media. After his studies, he worked as an assistant director at the Schauspiel Bonn and at the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt am Main , where his first productions ( Loosing Time by John Hopkins , Der Kyklop by Euripides , Mein Hundemund by Werner Schwab and Der Kammersänger by Frank Wedekind ) took place.

In 1996 he also began directing for television, initially as part of the ProSieben comedy series Die Viersteins . He then directed series such as Balko and Der Fahnder . Der Tatort: ​​Herrenabend , his second directorial work for the ARD crime series, achieved the highest Tatort audience rating in eighteen years in 2011.
