action

Barbara Weller is a well-behaved and well-adjusted housewife who not only works in her husband's small car repair shop, but is also there as a "stopgap" for her children when it comes to looking after the grandchildren or helping out with some money. For her 35th wedding anniversary, she really only has one wish: to finally treat herself to a trip to the sunny lavender fields in Provence. But her husband Karl doesn't like it. He prefers to give his wife a super-modern garden grill because he also benefits from it.

The next day, Barbara finds a missing registration for a French course in a café. Actually, she just wants to return the note to the original owner, but when she shows up at the adult education center with it, she surprisingly becomes a course member, because without her the minimum number would not have been met and, just like at home, she cannot say no. Alexander, the course leader, teaches Barbara together with Richard, Miriam, Mehmet and Simon in an unconventional way in the French language. Their teacher not only teaches them vocabulary, but above all how to assert oneself in French. He holds his lessons wherever he can teach his students something practical. For example, they meet in a pub and are only allowed to speak French there, go to a French market, learn to curse French, cook and bake together. Barbara notices that the other course participants also struggle with problems and that everyone has a different reason to learn French. The opportunity for new friendships opens up for all of them and they become a real team.

For the daily meetings, to which Barbara always goes to secretly, she always has to come up with new excuses, so that her husband slowly becomes suspicious and Barbara also neglects her other “duties” a little. She even takes the freedom to just think about what her family cannot understand at all. Her growing self-confidence confuses her and drives Karl Weller so far as to spy on his wife and to force her out of the French group. Barbara is initially upset about this and actually wants to be the good housewife and wife she once was. But suddenly she heard a "cry for help" from the adult education center. Your teacher is allegedly a con man with no educational qualification whatsoever and the whole course is in danger of failing. To prevent this from happening, as a course participant, you should prove that you learned something from Alexander. Barbara struggles with herself because her family is doing their best to appreciate her and her work. They are all there to honor her and want to celebrate their wedding anniversary. But when all of her classmates stand in front of her, they can't help but help them and Alexander.

No matter how your exam ends, you have all learned a lot. Not just in French, but a lot about life. Everyone is now going their own way and everyone is looking hopefully towards the future - including Alexander. Barbara has booked her trip to France and is on her way to the airport when her family sounds the alarm. Together they want to bring Barbara back and she is almost inclined not to let the family down. At the last moment her newly won self-confidence comes back and she asserts herself and makes her dream trip to the lavender fields in Provence.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv judged: “'Mother has enough now' is not content with self-discovery scenarios, but transcends the awakening of a long-suppressed self with a very atmospheric key. Director Matthias Tiefenbacher and author Stefan Kolditz succeed in merging the dramatic, comedic and great emotions into a small, feel-good film, total work of art. " Focus.de said:" A little more speed would certainly not have harmed the sensitively staged film [...]. 'Mother's enough now' has become a solidly staged comedy about the courage to set out. Ulrike Krumbiegel gives the story its very own, unforgettable face. "

TV Spielfilm gave the film a medium rating (thumbs to the side).
