Simone Warzel (* 1973 ) is a German mathematician who deals with mathematical physics .

Professional background

Warzel studied in Erlangen and Cambridge and received his doctorate in 2001 with Hajo Leschke at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (On Lifshits Tails in Magnetic Fields). From 2003 to 2006 she was a post-doctoral student at Princeton University , where she became an assistant professor in 2006. She has been a professor at the Technical University of Munich since 2008 and is also a visiting researcher at Princeton.

She deals with disordered quantum systems, many-body systems and statistical mechanics . She published a lot with Michael Aizenman . In 2006, together with Aizenman and Robert Sims, she proved the stability of continuous spectra of the Laplace operator on random tree graphs with weak perturbations. Together with colleagues in 2008, she proved the existence of the Scott correction of the binding energy of heavy atoms in a (pseudo-) relativistic description. In addition, she investigated the Anderson localization or its non-existence (existence of extended states) in various models of solid-state physics, for example with Aizenman 2011 at the mobility edge on the Bethe grid , where extended states arise from resonances of the impurities.

Awards

From 2007 to 2010 she was a Sloan Research Fellow . In 2013 she received the von Neumann Fellowship Award from the Institute for Advanced Study and in 2009 the Young Scientist Award from IUPAP . For 2018 she was invited to speak at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in Rio.
