Serkan Kaya

Serkan Kaya (born July 24, 1977 in Leverkusen ) is a Turkish actor and musical performer .

Life

Serkan Kaya grew up as the child of a Turkish guest worker family in Germany. He studied acting and musicals at the Folkwang University in Essen. With his band Estonia Fantasies he performed at the Leverkusener Jazz Days and produced a CD.

His first engagements took him to the Shakespeare Festival Neuss and the Ruhr Festival in Recklinghausen , where he played the king in Shakespeare's Lost Love Labor directed by Brian Michels . This was followed by a collaboration with Niels-Peter Rudolph in the role of Count Lasca in The Turk from Venice by Carlo Goldoni .

In his first musical engagement he was hired for the role of Emilio in Miami Nights at the Capitol Theater Düsseldorf . Under the direction of Kim Duddy , he played Ren McCormack in Footloose during the Amstetten musical summer .

In Passau he played the role of Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar . In 2005 Kaya appeared in We Will Rock You in Cologne and in Austria in Elisabeth , directed by Harry Kupfer as Luigi Lucheni . He was also engaged for the first cast of the Galileo in Zurich and Vienna (together with Jessica Kessler ) and played the role of Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Aalto Theater in Essen in a production by Michael Schulze until 2008 . In 2008 he played the role of Anatoly in the musical Chess at the Aalto Theater in Essen. In 2009 Serkan Kaya appeared on stage as Sir Galahad in the German premiere of the musical Monty Python's Spamalot in the Cologne Musical Dome . From 2009 to 2010 he was seen as Che in Evita at the Dortmund City Theater . In December 2009 he played in Musical Rocks in Vienna ! With. From March 2010 he was seen again at the Aalto-Theater Essen as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar and since April / May 2010 at the Magdeburg Theater as Bernardo in the West Side Story . In summer 2010 he was a guest at the Heidelberg Castle Festival in the role of Laertes in Shakespeare's Hamlet . He was also with Musical Rocks! on tour in Germany and Austria. From October 2010 he was at the Staatstheater Kassel in Stephen Sondheim's musical Into the Woods as Wolf and Prince .

On January 13, 2011, the world premiere of the musical Hinterm Horizont in Berlin, in which he played the lead role of Udo Lindenberg . He played this role until the Dernière on August 28, 2016 in the Theater am Potsdamer Platz.

Kaya also appears at musical events, such as Die Sommernacht des Musicals in Dinslaken (2011, 2012) and Musical Allstars .

The television film The King of Cologne , in which Kaya played one of the leading roles, received the Grimme Prize 2020 in the audience award category.
