Dernière

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dernière ( French last ) is the last performance of a production at a venue - sometimes combined with a special applause for everyone involved.

The word is an analogy to the premiere , the first performance of a stage work .

Dernièrengag

It is common - at least in German-speaking theaters - to include a so-called "Dernièrengag" (also called Dernièrenscherz) in the derernière performance. The little fun is built in by individual actors and mostly only recognized and understood by the ensemble and the initiated. The Dernièrengag is also feared, as even tiny changes to the text or props can change the meaning of the piece and thus the other actors can be thrown off the mark.

(Unwritten) rules of derernière jokes stipulate that the audience must not notice anything and that the piece must neither suffer from it nor change its basic content.
