Marie Leuenberger

Marie Leuenberger (* 1980 in Berlin ) is a theater and film actress . As the daughter of a Swiss father and a German mother, she has both German citizenship and Swiss citizenship .

Life

Marie Leuenberger grew up in Basel and played at the Junge Theater Basel from 1996 to 1999 . Then she completed her acting training at the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich until 2002 . She was engaged at the Bavarian State Theater in Munich in 2002/03 and at the Stuttgart State Theater in 2004/05 . From 2005 to 2010 she was part of the ensemble of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. Since then she has appeared in numerous cinema and television films. She has two children and lives in Berlin.

For her leading role in the Swiss feature film The Registrar , Leuenberger received the award for best actress at the World Film Festival in Montréal and the 2010 Swiss Film Prize. At the Solothurn Film Festival 2013 she received the Swiss TV Film Award for the female lead in the TV crime thriller Hunkeler and the eyes of Oedipus . Leuenberger won the Swiss Film Prize again in 2017 for her leading role in The Divine Order , a political film drama about the introduction of women's suffrage. For this role, she also won the award for best actress in an international feature film at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
