Beside the track - Your will is done is a German psychological thriller by director Anno Saul from 2017 and the fourth part of the crime series Beside the track . The film is based on the novel Shatter by Australian bestselling author Michael Robotham .

action

The Hamburg psychiatrist Dr. Johannes Jessen is asked by the police for help in preventing a suicidal woman from jumping off a bridge. Despite all efforts, Carina Winter jumps to her death. Jessen then torments self-doubts and nightmares, because the successful psychiatrist is not used to failure. His ambition drives him to find out what drove the woman to do this. Jenny Winter, the underage daughter, is convinced that her mother would never kill herself, and her business partner also finds Carina Winter's behavior strange. Jessen told Commissioner Ruiz that something could not be right about the case, but initially there was no criminal offense for him. That changes when the forensic scientist researches and finds out that Winter had cell phone contact with a caller shortly before and during her jump, who, however , cannot be identified due to the use of an unregistered prepaid card .

A few days later, another woman commits an equally inexplicable suicide. She also had cell phone contact, so Jessen suspects that he is dealing with a “soul breaker” who is driving women to suicide. After the identified prepaid mobile phone is used again, Patrick Friesner becomes the focus of the investigation. Jessen notes that the ex-soldier is still traumatized by experiences of war. In his assessment, Friesner lacks the prerequisites to manipulate people in the way the caller did, and his statement that he only found the cell phone seems plausible. The search for the perpetrator is now open again, and Commissioner Ruiz is hoping for clues from Ellen Schwarz, a classmate of the previous victims, who recently invited to a class reunion but then did not appear herself. A query from the parents reveals that their daughter allegedly drowned with her six-year-old daughter three months ago in a ferry accident off Greece. The research for the husband and father of the child leads to Gedeon Tauber, who was no longer allowed to have contact with his wife and daughter after an injunction. Before Ruiz and Jessen can follow this trail, however, an emergency call is made. Mirja Becker, another former classmate of Ellen Schwarz, is supposed to provoke a suicide by cop , but this time it succeeds in saving the potential victim.

When Ruiz and Jessen can now go in search of Gedeon Tauber, they experience a big surprise, because they already had him on the station because he was able to deceive them and pretended to be a comrade to Patrick Friesner. Jessen finds out that Ellen Schwarz and her daughter are still alive and that their parents only want to protect them with the story of the misfortune. So Gedeon Tauber tried to lure his ex-wife out of her hiding place by all means in order to be able to punish her. So he used these macabre means to drive Ellen Schwarz's school friends to suicide. Since this has not worked so far, he harnesses Jessen for his goals and first brings Jessen's daughter and then Jessen's wife into his power. Taubers careless phone calls with Jessen can determine the whereabouts. The SEK found Charlotte and Nora Jessen relatively unscathed in an empty house, but Tauber escaped. While the two are being cared for in the hospital, Jessen goes home alone. Surprisingly, Tauber awaits him there, who, after a brief conversation with the psychiatrist, allows the police to arrest him without resistance.
