Beside the track - Amnesie is a German psychological thriller by the directing duo Cyrill Boss & Philipp Stennert from 2016 and after Beside the track - Adrenalin the second part of the crime series Beside the Track . The film is based on the novel Lost by the Australian bestselling author Michael Robotham and, like the first part, was shot in and around Hamburg .
action
The head of the Hamburg homicide squad Ruiz is found seriously injured on the Elbe beach. An empty motorboat is floating on the water, and bullets and traces of blood are found on it, suggesting that Ruiz and one other person were on board. The Commissioner has no memory of the night in question and this uncertainty torments him. Again and again he sees images in his mind's eye that he cannot classify. In his distress, the investigator clings not only to pain-relieving morphine pills, but also to the hope that the man he himself recently hunted, Dr. Joe Jessen . The psychiatrist immerses himself in Ruiz's dark past and comes across an unsolved case that has not let go of Ruiz to this day: It concerns an allegedly murdered girl whose killer was found in a circumstantial trial three years ago, but never the child's body was found. Ruiz discovers connections to the night on the boat and goes on a search for the missing child. The young police officer Anna Bartholomé helps him and is seriously injured in pursuit of a suspect.
There are clues that point to a ransom demand and Ruiz suspects that Lilli Holsten is still alive. The case is now to be officially reopened, but Ruiz is suspended for that very reason. Completely on his own, he wants to meet a Robert Witte, who called him and came out as the blackmailer. But when he and Dr. Joe Jessen arrives at the agreed place, Witte is already dead. Ruiz's memory comes back fragmentarily at the sight of him. He actually remembers a ransom delivery that took place on the ship. Alexej Kuznet, a Mafia boss and the girl's father, had obtained the ransom in the form of diamonds and Ruiz was supposed to deliver the stones according to the telephone instructions. They were then shot at on the boat, which indicates Alexej Kuznet, who wanted to get his diamonds back. He knew it was all just a hoax, because three years ago there had already been blackmail, as Ruiz has since learned from Witte's friend and accomplice. Since they had run out of money, they just wanted to try again, which now ended fatally for Robert Witte.
Kerstin Fitz and Robert Witte both declared independently that they had released Lilli three years ago. But she ran into her father's arms, not her murderer, as assumed. He brought her to his brother in Latvia without further ado, because his wife wanted to separate from Alexej Kuznet and so he had used the kidnapping so as not to lose his daughter too. So that this doesn't come out because of the renewed blackmail, he had tried to have everyone involved by one of his killers.
After Vincent Ruiz travels to Latvia and has Alexej Kuznet arrested there, he can actually find Lilli Holsten and bring her back to her mother in Germany.

Reviews
Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv thinks that this sequel to Beside the Track - Adrenalin “also makes the weaknesses of this genre color clear, as the film uses the possibilities of the constellation psychiatrist / commissioner in a first-class dramaturgical way, but only inadequately plays them narrative. The popular motif of memory disorder is little more than a pretext for a fancy narrative structure. But this works well and is gripping. Hamburg has seldom been seen so gloomy, the locations are shabby, the weather bleak - and Juergen Maurer is THE face of the superficially exciting film. "
The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave this crime thriller the best possible rating (thumbs up) and say: "Crazy thrill, great characters: that's how it has to be!"
