St. James Church (St. Helena)

St. James is an Anglican church building in Jamestown on the island of St. Helena in the British overseas territory of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha . The church belongs to the diocese of St. Helena . The church was built in 1774 and is considered the oldest Anglican church building in the southern hemisphere.
St. James has been one of the 7 wonders of St. Helena since 2008 . The building is a listed building and is one of our I to.
history
The first church building that can be seen as the predecessor of St. James was built around 1500. The first known Anglican church was opened in 1659.
After the current church building was erected in 1774, structural changes were made in 1843 and 1869 in particular. In 1980 the top of the tower , which was in danger of collapsing, was dismantled. On September 4, 2016, the church received a new tip.
