Luxembourg

A modernization of the Arlon – Luxembourg railway line from the Belgian border to Luxembourg station is planned. In the south, the existing Metz – Luxembourg line is to be partially replaced by a new line between the capital and the town of Bettembourg , and the station there is to be expanded. Construction began in February 2011. The planned total costs amount to 430 million euros.

The two sections in France are part of the high-speed line LGV Est européenne and are part of EU transport projects 4 and 17. The 100 km long route between Luxembourg and the new rail hub in Baudrecourt is part of TEN-T project 4.

A new line has been built from Baudrecourt to Vendenheim (near Strasbourg). Construction began on this second section of LGV Est européenne (TEN-T project 17) in August 2010. Completion was planned for December 2016, but due to an accident during the test phase , the route was not opened until the timetable change on December 11, 2016 . The planned total costs amount to 94 million euros.
