action

Jürgen Wilken is shot dead on the doorstep of Professor Bernhard Dreiden, a friend of Professor Boerne. Shortly before, Dreiden had received his children from his divorced wife. Wilken, in turn, is the friend of Juliane Kraft, who at the same time had a relationship with Dreiden. Juliane has a son herself; little Max grows up alternately with his grandmother, his mother and Julian's ex-husband Felix Kraft, Max's father.

Jürgen Wilken was shot in the car. The murder weapon is found in three dens laundry basket, Dreiden itself has broken glass on clothing, but no gunshot residue that prove would that he has shot. For the prosecutor, however, the case is as good as resolved and she is holding a corresponding press conference. Boerne is the only one who doubts Dreiden's perpetration. From the deformation of the bullet, but also from smoke traces on the back of Dreiden's clothing, Boerne can reconstruct that the perpetrator must have been a few meters from Wilken's car when he fired the weapon. Dreiden must have looked in the direction of the shooter. According to the investigation, the murder weapon jammed after the first shot, which would explain why Dreiden was not subsequently shot. Since Dreiden's children are silent, although they may have seen the sequence of events from their room, Boerne and Thiel get stuck.

Together with Boerne, Thiel asks Juliane Kraft about her relationship with Dreiden and Wilken. Shortly thereafter, Juliane is picked up by her ex-husband, who brings Max over. Max explains that they can both go out together because he can go to bed himself in the evening. After midnight, Thiel received a call from worried Max because his mother hadn't come home yet. Thiel and Boerne go to the university where Juliane works at four in the morning and find their office unlocked. On the wall and on the floor there are pools of blood that have been neglected. It is Julian's blood. Although Boerne was able to reconstruct that Juliane was shot at with a weapon from close range and then dragged to a car, the corpse, the perpetrator and a motive are missing.

Thiel suspects Felix Kraft of having murdered his ex-wife. A first house search of his apartment, his car and the apartment of Felix's parents brought no findings. The car was cleaned intensively, however, and Felix cooked several things that had suspicious stains. During the interrogation, Felix is hard-nosed and considerate and robs Thiel of the last nerve. Boerne turns to the papers in Grandmother Kraft's house again and finds a bill that turns out to be payment for a paternity test. Using DNA samples, Boerne and Alberich can prove that Felix is unable to procreate. His son Max is actually from Dreiden, who has had a relationship with Juliane for years. On the day Jürgen Wilken was killed, Felix actually only had to shoot in front of Dreiden, but since Wilken saw him and recognized how he was aiming at the man, he got the bullet. Later on, blood from Felix's things and the weapon with which Juliane was murdered can be found in a waste recycling plant. However, the body is still missing. A look at the various jobs that the unemployed Felix has taken on in recent years puts Boerne on the right track: Felix was also employed in a crematorium. Boerne and Thiel find Julian's body in one of the coffins there, which are still waiting to be cremated. The public prosecutor is satisfied with the new investigator Thiel, and Boerne succeeds in presenting his essential merits as teamwork between him and Thiel. Thiel, in turn, now has the difficult task of teaching little Max about the death of his mother.
