Dino Asanaj

Dino Asanaj (* 1956 or 1957 in Peć , SFR Yugoslavia , today Kosovo ; † June 14, 2012 in Pristina , Kosovo) was a Kosovar politician and entrepreneur. He emigrated to the United States , where he lived for about two decades. From there he became involved in the Albanian community abroad and supported the UÇK in the Kosovo war . After the war he turned to Kosovar politics and most recently worked as head of the privatization agency. In mid-June 2012, a stranger stabbed him in his office.

Life

Asanaj graduated from Belgrade in 1982. In 1985 he went to the United States where he was a founding member of Services Group International LLC. He also founded the electronics construction companies " DD interiors " and " IDT Electric " based in New York City . He was also involved in various investments in the United States and Kosovo, including the planning and implementation of the International Village LLC in Prishtina.

From 1993 to 2002 he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Albanian Council (NAAC) based in Washington, DC

During and after the Kosovo War he was the representative of the UÇK in the United States. He was also an advisor to the delegation negotiating the Rambouillet Treaty . He received a Medal of Honor for his activities during the war.

From 2007 to 2008 he worked as an emigration advisor in the office of Prime Minister Agim Çeku .

Most recently he was chief executive of the Kosovar privatization agency (Agjencia Kosovare e Privatizimit).

On June 14, 2012, he was found in his office with wounds on his neck and stitches in his heart. He died in hospital from his serious injuries.
