Helgi Schmid (born May 9, 1986 in Darmstadt ) is a German actor .

Life

Helgi Schmid, also known as Andreas Helgi Schmid, grew up in Grünstadt , Rhineland-Palatinate.

The son of a German father and an Icelandic mother studied acting at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart from 2005 to 2009 and currently lives in Mannheim.

His brother is the Cologne jazz saxophonist Stefan Karl Schmid .

theatre

From 2009 to 2012 he was a permanent member of the theater in Freiburg . There he plays u. a. Ferdinand im Sturm (director: Jarg Pataki ) and participates in the Buddenbrooks production, nominated by Nachtkritik for the virtual theater meeting . This is followed by works with director Christoph Frick (Lie in my face, UA, The Visit of the Old Lady ), Robert Schuster , Tom Ryser, Avishai Milstein and Thomas Krupa (as Raskolnikow in Verbrechen und Strafe ). In addition to working on drama, Helgi Schmid appears musically in various late night theater formats. The in-house production "Hell above and Heaven below" with songs by Tom Waits is invited to the Kaltstart Theater Festival in Hamburg.

This is followed by guest engagements and a. at the Nationaltheater Mannheim , Theater Aachen and Landestheater Tübingen .

In 2014 Schmid played the title role JR (director: Marcus Lobbes ) at the Wuppertaler Bühnen and won the main prize at the Theatertreffen NRW as the best production of the year with the ensemble.

From 2014 to 2016 Schmid became a permanent member of the ensemble at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus .

There he played u. a. Lysander in a Midsummer Night's Dream (director: Alex Rigola) and again worked with director Marcus Lobbes in A bit of calm before the storm by Theresia Walser (October 2015). He also made musical appearances as Harry Frommermann in the production of Comedian Harmonists by Mathias Schönsee in August 2015, and as Trinculo im Sturm by Shakespeare (director: Volker Hesse , premiere April 2015).

Movie

Schmid has been working in film since 2009. He appears for the first time as the leading role Hans in the comedy All You Need Is Love - My daughter-in-law is a man .

The FAZ wrote about his appearance in the Frankfurt Tatort Who Breaks the Silence (2012 - Director: Edward Berger ) :

“The young actor Andreas Helgi Schmid has barely five minutes to characterize Jürgen Schuch. And he does it grippingly to the point of disgust; a hopeless case, a concrete head that grins and juggles with spit threads as well as with cynical intelligence. "

With the lead role in the TV series Snipers - Love under the gun (2013), Schmid also shot internationally for the first time - alongside Tatjana Arntgolz (director: Zinovi Roisman).

At the ARD radio play days 2012, 2014 and 2017 he worked a. a. alongside Peter Jordan , Walter Kreye and Ilona Schulz in the live radio plays (director: Hans-Helge Ott).

In 2017, the radio play Screener by Lucas Derycke, in which Helgi Schmid speaks the main role, was awarded the War Blind Radio Play Prize.
