action

After the funeral director Josef Thallinger with a heart condition dies, his daughter Eva turns to the Munich homicide squad. Even though the death certificate certifies a natural cause of death and indicates sudden cardiac death , she has a strange feeling. The investigative team consisting of Ludwig Schaller, Angelika Flierl and Harald Neuhauser gets to the bottom of the matter. A puncture site in the arm of the dead man and a blood stain in the funeral home raise doubts about the certified cause of death for Schaller. However, a murder cannot be proven, partly because the body has already been treated with formalin . The blood comes from the deceased and he was given infusions because of his heart disease.

In their investigations, Flierl, Neuhauser and Schaller come across some inconsistencies, the family relationships of the deceased were broken and thus provide several motives for murder. The parents had an open marriage, Maria Thallinger had a relationship with the cosmetic surgeon Dr. Quirin Werner. Ignatz Nitschke, an embalmer and a kind of foster son of the dead, was suddenly fired by the old Thallinger after he finished his training, after Ignatz got too close to Eva. According to other funeral directors, Josef also ensured that Ignatz could no longer find a job in Munich. Thallinger's son Adam was not mentioned in the will, daughter Eva is supposed to take over the company.

Schaller finds the phone number of It girl Tara Bauerl in Tallinger's documents, but Dr. Werner. Tara had a fatal accident after a New Year's party and was buried by the Thallinger undertaker. Dr. Werner claims to have performed a breast augmentation on Tara Bauerl. Schaller suspects that Dr. Werner was blackmailed by Josef Thallinger. According to Dr. Werner wanted Thallinger to prove that Tara had neglected and treated him incorrectly. Thallinger liked Tara, she stated that Dr. Werner being mistreated. Werner claims to have rejected Tara's advances and that she therefore wanted revenge on him. Neuhauser finds out that Adam Thallinger is in debt and therefore received money from his mother up to six weeks ago.

Neuhauser and Flierl find Maria Thallinger with a serious head injury in their apartment, the emergency doctor assumes a nervous breakdown as the cause. In her files, Neuhauser finds a rental agreement for an apartment, Flierl suspects that it will serve as a love nest for Maria and Dr. Werner had served. In Josef's notebook there is a hard-to-decipher note, which the investigators receive support from Chief Detective Zangel in deciphering it. The message is My Eve, your children are not your children , a verse by Khalil Gibran . Schaller then visits Maria Thallinger in the hospital to find out whether Josef was the father of her children. Maria admits that Dr. Werner Eva's father is. Josef knew about foreign paternity since Eva was eight years old. Maria also claims to have rented the apartment for Eva so that she could start a new life without her tyrannical father. Joseph found out and was angry because he did not want his daughter to be taken away from him.

During the autopsy, formalin is found in the body of the dead body where it would not have gone through the embalming. So Thallinger was still alive when he was poisoned with formalin. The formalin was presumably given via the infusions Thallinger had received because of his heart disease. The perpetrator probably replaced the IV bags. Flierl and Neuhauser initially suspect Ignatz Nitschke because Thallinger wanted to prevent his relationship with his daughter and he had the necessary specialist knowledge. Eva, on the other hand, would not have come to the homicide squad by herself if she had been the perpetrator. After the police arrest Nitschke, however, she confesses to having murdered her father because he had lied to her for years and she wanted to start a new and free life without him. After the crime, she came to the homicide squad, hoping to get rid of her guilty feelings. Eva learns from the police that Thallinger wanted to release her after all.

reception

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv found that the black humor that the profession in combination with this row of staff brings to the surface is rather unspectacular. The film is still fun, the narration of this Whodunit is tight, the relationships are somewhat complex and Fehse's staging is impressive - but this episode has a little less of the certain something in this series than usual.

Julian Weinberger wrote in the Weser Kurier that the case was very classic. The thriller does not really want to ignite. "Too little local flavor, too good dialogues - all in all, what's left of life is just average crime fiction."

Sidney Schering described the film on Oddsmeter.de as an "interchangeable, tame case, from which hardly anything stands out in a memorable way." There is a little touch of local color and a tiny pinch of black humor. The plot would be wound down in a rather unmotivated series of interrogations and deliberations among the investigators. After all, the detailed resolution is played very well and emotionally, which enhances the solidly routinely staged crime thriller a little.

Arnold Hohmann, on the other hand, described the tenth film of the investigator trio in the Berliner Morgenpost as "undoubtedly one of their best". The scriptwriters would have built this film as a classic crime thriller with a search for perpetrators, in between they provided little amusing interludes.

In Germany, 6.75 million people saw the film when it was first broadcast; the market share was 20.9 percent.
