44 of the total of 48 nominations were announced on September 21st, followed by the announcement of the donors' honorary award for Joachim Fuchsberger on September 28th . The best entertainer was decided in a audience vote.
The prize categories that existed after last year's reform were controversial in the jury. Nevertheless, the award sponsors ARD, ZDF, RTL and Sat.1 agreed to continue the television award at least until 2014.
In 2011, the jury was chaired by Christoph Keese , Managing Director Public Affairs at Axel Springer AG . The other jury members were: Dieterschlag , editor-in-chief Funkkorrespondenz , Else Buschheuer , writer and presenter, Lutz Carstens , editor-in-chief TV Spielfilm , Leopold Hoesch, managing director Broadview TV , Ralf Husmann , executive producer and deputy managing director Brainpool TV, Hans-Werner Meyer , actor, Christiane Ruff , producer and Klaudia Wick , freelance journalist.
The award ceremony was recorded on October 2nd and broadcast on October 3rd. With the automated publication of agency reports through Internet news portals, some winners were announced on the night of October 3rd, although a blocking period was in effect until after the broadcast (October 3rd, 11pm).
