German television award 2010

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The twelfth presentation of the German Television Prize took place on October 9, 2010 in Cologne's Coloneum . It was moderated by Sandra Maischberger and Kurt Krömer and was broadcast one day later on Das Erste . This year 45 productions and people competed for the award in twelve competition categories. The nominees were announced on September 22nd.

The most successful was ARD with seven awards, followed by ZDF with four, RTL Television with two and Arte , KiKA , ProSieben , rbb , Sat.1 with one award each.

Award reform

In the run-up to the award ceremony, the sponsors ( ARD , ZDF , RTL , Sat.1 ) announced that they wanted to reform the awarding of awards. It provides that, apart from the two main actors, the seven other personal categories for supporting actors, directors, authors, cameramen, editors, composers and outfitters will no longer be awarded. In this way, the award is to be shifted more to television formats / productions and an equalization of the different genres is to be achieved. The Association of German writers (VDD) said on August 12, 2010 public criticism of this change of approach, as have "the awards for special artistic performance painted" with her donor.

“The disregard of the authors and creators of the films, programs and series reflects the new attitude of public television [ sic ], which is less committed to culture and more to success with ratings. Special artistic achievements by individuals are no longer recognized. "( Board of Directors of the VDD )

An open letter from the Federal Association of Film and Television Actors (BFFS) followed on August 23, which also protested against the reform plans. The whole world is "envied for the abundance and above all the quality of German television films and multi-part series". For this reason, the BFFS considers it questionable that these productions should no longer be honored and could therefore fall behind in the television landscape compared to the show and reality formats. The German Television Prize runs the risk of losing its role as “the most prestigious award”. An urgent appeal to reconsider these changes once again, among other things, included the National Association of Filmmakers associations , the Association of Agencies (VDA), the Association of German actor agencies and ver.di on.

The donors announced the goals behind the reform. They want to put "the work and team spirit of television production in the foreground". Since a large number of personal categories for filmmakers represent an imbalance compared to television formats, this has now been corrected. The changes were also made necessary by the growing importance of the areas of information , documentation , entertainment , comedy and docutainment in the television landscape. One does not want to do without personal honors altogether, for this reason special prizes are now being awarded for outstanding achievements that cannot be recorded with the classic categories.

The outrage boiled up again among the critics when it was announced two days before the award ceremony that the donors' honorary award this year would go to the German national football team and that, for the first time, no television producer would be honored for his outstanding television performance. As a result, some critics told the press that they would stay away from the event in protest.

Meanwhile, Michael Brandner , member of the board of directors at the Federal Association of Film and Television Actors (BFFS), announced that actors, screenwriters and other creative minds in the film industry have plans for a German television academy and a television award based on the American Emmy Award . The three professional associations of film and television composers in Germany ( German Composers' Association , Composers Club and mediamusic ) have something similar in mind .

Protests at the award ceremony

On the evening of the award ceremony, filmmakers protested against the reform and once again expressed their displeasure with the deletion of personal categories. Among other things, Hans-Werner Meyer , member of the board of the Federal Association of Film and TV Actors (BFFS), distributed leaflets and pins to the guests with the words “I am inexpensive”. During the television gala, some of the award winners also addressed the debate about the reform of the television award in their acceptance speech.
