The auslandsjournal (also spelled auslands journal ) is a weekly broadcast of the Second German Television ; As the successor magazine to local time, it has been reporting on events outside of Germany since 1974.

In 1976 49 programs were broadcast with an average audience rating of 17 percent (ZDF yearbook 1976). The Auslandsjournal is the program window for the main editorial office Politics and Current Affairs of ZDF.

Since May 2011, the last contribution of the show has been a field service . Foreign reporters around the world try their hand at traditional professions and traditions. The field service reporters were, or are, among others Aline Abboud , Lennart Behnke, Aminata Belli , Ron Boese, Benjamin Daniel, Melanie Haack, Sabrina Hermsen, Anja Heyde , Lisa Jandi, Julia Theres Held , Eric Mayer , Anja Roth , Jo Schück , Jennifer Sieglar and Andreas Stamm.

Antje Pieper has been the moderator of the international journal since July 16, 2014 . From February 4, 2009 to May 28, 2014, the show was moderated by Theo Koll , and from September 2001 to January 2009 by Dietmar Ossenberg , the former ZDF correspondent in Cairo. Previously it was presented by Andreas Wunn (2006), Gustav Trampe , Peter Frey , Ulrich Kienzle and Rudolf Radke , among others .

Since the mid / late 1980s, the broadcast slot has traditionally been on Thursday evening at 9:15 p.m. A longer attempt to move the slot to Monday was withdrawn in favor of Thursday evening. Before it was moved to Thursday evening, the international journal was always broadcast on Fridays at 7.30 p.m. The current time slot is Wednesday at 10:15 p.m., directly after the heute-journal .

For years, ZDF used the beginning of the title Good Company by Gary Grant and Simon Park from the album Give Peas a Chance as the title melody of the show . In 2018 the design of the show was completely redesigned. This affects the logo, the studio and the opening credits.

According to ZDF, one issue costs around 54,000 euros.

foreign journal extra

In spring 1989 3sat created a slot for a foreign policy magazine. It mainly consisted of contributions that had previously been broadcast in Auslandsjournal . Therefore, the program kept its name, but was moderated by ZDF presenters. At the end of 1990 the name ausland was introduced. In terms of content, information was also provided with new posts. The broadcasting slots changed and from October 1995 ausland could be seen every Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. In January 1997, the show also got a new design to underline its independent profile. Since December 1999, the show has been titled auslandsjournal extra and is shown on Fridays at 9:30 p.m. on 3sat. Since March 2020, the broadcast has been postponed to Thursday, 10:25 p.m. Current moderators are Julia Theres Held , Linda Kierstan , Andreas Klinner , Lisa Mittrücker , Anja Roth and Anna Schilling .
