Matthias Fornoff (born August 28, 1963 in Mainz ) is a German journalist and television presenter .

Life

After studying history , political science and Slavic studies in Mainz and Berlin , Fornoff began working for the German Press Agency in Berlin and the ZDF in the contemporary history department before becoming a correspondent at the ZDF regional studio in Berlin in 1992. Through his reporting on the Oder floods in 1997 , he gained nationwide fame. In 1998 he moved to the Brandenburg State Studio in Potsdam , where he became director.

In 2000 he moved to the ZDF headquarters in Mainz. There he became one of the closest employees of editor-in-chief Nikolaus Brender as chief of duty . He became a Washington, DC correspondent in 2007 and studio manager in 2008.

From September 2010 to August 2014, Fornoff was, in weekly alternation with Petra Gerster, the moderator in the main edition of heute news at 7 p.m. and the editor-in-chief. He had taken over from Steffen Seibert , who is now government spokesman in Berlin . Fornoff had set himself the goal of developing new audiences for ZDF. The audience should also receive more background information and 3D animations. On the other hand, he does not see tabloid journalism and celebrity reporting as part of a serious news format.

Since July 1, 2014 he has been the head of the main editorial department “Politics and Current Affairs” and moderates the Politbarometer .

Fornoff is married and has two children. He speaks Russian.
