In addition to the regular Weltspiegel program, there are also the monothematic programs Weltspiegel-Reportage and Weltspiegel extra , which deal with a specific topic in more detail than in the parent program.

The broadcast with the subtitle Foreign Correspondents Report began on April 5, 1963, moderated by Gerd Ruge , who was the first to develop the program in collaboration with Klaus Bölling . The series was carried by NDR and WDR until 1974, and BR and SDR were added from January 1975 . The latter were previously responsible for the ARD magazine Kompass - ARD foreign reports. Its editorial offices were Weltspiegel , and the broadcasting time was extended from 30 to 40 minutes.
