Franz Wördemann

Franz Wördemann (born May 29, 1923 in Münster , † March 16, 1992 in Herrsching am Ammersee ) was a German journalist and non-fiction author .

Life

Franz Wördemann came from a merchant family and grew up in Münster. There he first attended a grammar school before he then switched to the boarding school Collegium Augustinianum Gaesdonck near Goch , where he graduated from high school in 1942 . After the Second World War , he studied philology at the university in his hometown for four years .

He then worked from 1950 to 1953 in London for the BBC , for their Overseas Service he then in 1953 as a correspondent in the former German capital Bonn went. Wördemann then worked from 1957 to 1960 in Cologne as an editor for WDR and Deutsche Welle, and from 1960/61 as a documentary writer in Washington .

In 1962, Wördemann was appointed editor-in-chief of television at WDR and, in 1972, he was also head of programs and head of the political program department. During these years of his activity and under his responsibility, television programs such as Monitor and Weltspiegel , both of which he moderated himself at times, were developed and broadcast for the first time. Wördemann also moderated programs from other broadcasters, such as the Report magazine in 1964/65, which at the time was still jointly produced by Bayerischer Rundfunk and Südwestfunk .

From 1973 to 1976 the CDU member Wördemann was editor-in-chief of the Münchner Merkur newspaper . In the 1980s, Wördemann was present on television as the presenter of the WDR's current hour .

He also translated and wrote books, of which the one about terrorism from 1977 to the present day is widely quoted.

Franz Wördemann died at the age of 68 and was buried in the cemetery in Herrsching am Ammersee.
