Kurt Stenzel (journalist)

Kurt Stenzel (born May 21, 1938 in Luxembourg ; † April 3, 2012 ) was a German television journalist .

Career

Stenzel studied political science, philosophy and history in Tübingen and Munich . In 1965 he received his doctorate under Eric Voegelin at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich ( Pascal's theory of divertissement ). In Munich he was active in the Social Democratic University Association (SHB) and 1962/63 chairman of the SHB Munich. In 1966 he was co-author of the paper Mobilization of Democracy , which was edited by Waldemar von Knoeringen .

From 1967 Stenzel worked for the television of the Süddeutscher Rundfunk (SDR). As an assistant to Emil Obermann , he was involved in the development of the TV magazine Pro und Contra . Stenzel took over the editing for the first few years. In addition, Stenzel was responsible for the SDR editorial team for the television magazines Report and Weltspiegel . He was also the presenter of the Weltspiegel.

From 1977 Stenzel worked as an ARD correspondent in the Middle East . He was the only television journalist in Mogadishu during the hijacking of the Landshut plane . In 1981 he became head of the Badische TV editorial office of the SDR in Mannheim and 1994 editor-in-chief of television of the SDR. In 1995 he became CEO of the House of Documentary Films in Stuttgart. From 1999 until his retirement in 2002 he was ARD correspondent for Switzerland and the UN in Geneva.

Stenzel died in April 2012. He last lived in Edingen-Neckarhausen .
