The House of Documentary Film in Stuttgart is an institution for the collection, promotion and research of German-language and international documentary film .

History and job profile

The House of Documentary was founded in 1991. The association European Media Forum Stuttgart eV , founded in Stuttgart on October 14, 1991, acts as the sponsor. This non-profit association emerged from an initiative of the then Süddeutscher Rundfunk and the state of Baden-Württemberg . Members today are the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for Science, Research and Art , the SWR , the city of Stuttgart , the collecting society for film and television producers , the ZDF , the WDR , the broadcasting company Arte , the MFG Filmförderung , the NDR , the IHK , the Evangelical Church in Württemberg and the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart .

It regularly organizes conferences and workshops on current and historical developments in documentary film, as well as the Dokville industry meeting every year . In the house there is a video collection consisting of around 8,000 individual titles, the earliest of which is dated to 1896. According to its own account, the collection is "the first of its kind in Europe to put together such a comprehensive presentation of international documentary film history for viewing."

The House of Documentary Film maintains the Baden-Württemberg State Film Collection, founded in 2001, with financial support .

The introduction of the new documentary film portal DOKsite began on June 18, 2015 during the Dokville event . This portal is intended to make the cinematic content of the Baden-Württemberg State Film Collection accessible to everyone.
