Tina Hassel (born May 11, 1964 in Cologne ) is a German journalist and television presenter . She is the director of the ARD capital studio in Berlin .

Career

Hassel studied history , German and political science in Cologne and Bordeaux . She received the degree of Magistra in German, history and political science. During her studies and afterwards she worked for various radio and television stations in Germany and France .

From 1990 to 1992 she volunteered at WDR , for which she then worked as an editor and presenter from 1992 to 1994 . From 1994 to 1999 she was a correspondent for ARD in Paris . From November 2001 to May 2012 she was the presenter of Weltspiegel and, since December 2001 , she has also been head of the WDR's international office. From July 2012 to June 2015 Hassel headed the ARD studio in Washington, DC On July 1, 2015, she took over the management of the ARD capital studio as the successor to Ulrich Deppendorf . She is the first woman to hold this post.

Hassel has been the godmother of the Bethel children's hospice for terminally ill children since 2010 . She is a member of the Atlantic Bridge .

Hassel is married and has three children. She is fluent in French .

At the beginning of June 2021, ZDF announced that Tina Hassel was running for the office of ZDF director. The previous incumbent, Thomas Bellut , will leave office on March 15, 2022 and will no longer stand for re-election. In the election on July 2, 2021 in the ZDF television council , Hassel withdrew her candidacy after the second ballot. She received fewer votes than Norbert Himmler in the first two ballots , but Himmler did not initially achieve a qualified majority. Himmler was then elected as the new director of the ZDF in the third ballot.

criticism

In the course of her reporting on the federal delegates' conference of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen at the beginning of 2018 for the ARD, Hassel repeatedly chose formulations in tweets that were viewed by various sides as inappropriate and not neutral: Michael Hanfeld spoke in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung of creating a mood by means of a " Salve of Juchz reports ", Alexander Will in the Nordwest-Zeitung of" massive media flank protection "for Alliance 90 / The Greens.
