Theo Koll (born March 19, 1958 in Bensberg ) is a German journalist and television presenter .

Career

Theo Koll attended the Otto Hahn Gymnasium in Bergisch Gladbach , where he graduated from high school . From 1977 to 1985 Theo Koll studied political science , modern history , sociology and constitutional law at the University of Bonn , as well as in London , Paris and Hamburg with a master's degree . At that time, from 1977 to 1984, he worked as a freelancer for journalist , Deutschlandfunk and Bayerischer Rundfunk . From 1985 he worked for the Norddeutscher Rundfunk as a correspondent for the Tagesschau and Tagesthemen , mainly in Hamburg, but also in Washington, DC and Tokyo . In 1990, Koll moved to the ZDF studio in Bonn as an editor . Between 1993 and 2001 he took over the management of the London studio.

From April 2001 to January 2009, Koll was the moderator and deputy editor-in-chief of the political magazine Frontal21 on ZDF . In 2005, Koll was awarded the Bavarian Television Prize for what the jury considered to be a “great overall editorial performance” . In 2006 he received the Hanns-Joachim-Friedrichs Prize together with Frontal21 editor-in-chief Claus Richter . From October 2006 to April 2010, Koll moderated the theater magazine Foyer on 3sat, alternating with Esther Schweins .

From January 2009 to May 2014, Koll took over the moderation of the ZDF international journal . As the successor to Dietmar Ossenberg , he became head of the main foreign policy department. From May 1, 2010 to June 2014, Koll also took over the management of the main editorial office for interior, social and educational policy at ZDF and thus also moderated the Politbarometer and ZDF special programs.

On July 1, 2014, Koll moved to Paris as ZDF studio manager . On March 1, 2019, he took over the management of the ZDF capital studio in Berlin .

Koll is a member of the board of the Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe . In 2009 he appeared in the movie Horst Schlämmer - Isch kandidiere! .

Theo Koll is married to Franziska Castell.
