Uwe Kröger (journalist)

Uwe Kröger (born November 11, 1943 in Versmold , Westphalia) is a German television journalist .

Even before graduating from high school, he worked as a freelancer for the Bielefelder Zeitung Freie Presse . From 1966 to the beginning of 1968 he worked in a shortened radio traineeship and as an editor at Saarländischer Rundfunk in Saarbrücken. He then worked as a reporter, editor and presenter for the German language service of the BBC in London and at the same time as a freelance London correspondent for German broadcasters and newspapers.

In July 1970 he started working for the Second German Television , initially as an editor and then as a foreign reporter. From 1972 he worked in ZDF's main foreign policy department as editor and acting head of the local time program , and in 1973 he was co-founder and first editor-in-chief of the foreign journal program .

This was followed by posts as a foreign correspondent: 1975–1978 in the ZDF studio in Washington , 1978–1983 as head of the ZDF Africa studio in Nairobi , responsible for all of sub-Saharan Africa. In 1984 his international activity was interrupted by a function as a member of the ZDF correspondent staff at the Mainz headquarters.

1985–1993 he was the director of the ZDF studio in London and a correspondent for Great Britain, the Commonwealth and the Republic of Ireland. In 1993 there was another move to Germany: he became head of the ZDF studio in Hamburg . In February 1997 he started working as head of the ZDF studio in Singapore , responsible a. a. for reporting from Afghanistan, South and Southeast Asia.

From May 2003 to November 2008 he was director of the ZDF studio in New York .
