Gerd Helbig

Gerd Helbig (born March 4, 1939 in Innien , now part of Aukrug ) is a German journalist . He worked for ZDF between 1968 ( trainee ) until his retirement in 2009 .

After attending the Holsten School and graduating from the Immanuel Kant School in Neumünster (1960), Helbig studied German, philosophy and history, and then political science in Kiel and Erlangen . In 1967 Helbig was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD.

After his internship, Helbig initially worked in the “News” editorial team at ZDF. a. in the Middle East for his first foreign assignments before he became second correspondent in the ZDF studio in Washington in 1972 .

He was director and moderator of the international journal (1977–1980), he moderated the Today Journal (1985), worked on the series “Pictures from America” (1983–1991) and for many years headed the ZDF studios in Washington and Brussels . Most recently he was a correspondent for ZDF in Tel Aviv from 2005 to 2009 . At the beginning of 2009, Helbig retired.

Gerd Helbig is married to the journalist Karin Storch .
