The Holstenschule is the oldest grammar school and a European school in Neumünster .
history
The school was founded in 1871, making it the oldest grammar school in Neumünster. At first it was a private school for boys from the upper middle class. After the construction of today's main building from 1901 to 1903, the Progymnasium with the Neumünster Realschule moved in there , in 1906 the Progymnasium was expanded to become a grammar school and in 1910 the Realschule became an Oberrealschule . The Holsten School has been a high school for boys and girls since 1973.
The Holstenschule is a science high school and takes part in competitions such as the Long Night of Mathematics or the Mathematics Olympiad every year.
The college consists of about 55 teachers who teach about 1000 students.
The Holstenschule has been a European school since 2002 and runs exchange programs with three schools in France , Poland and England every year :
- with the Lycée Blaise Pascal in Segré (France) for the 8th / 9th School year since 1994,
- with the Zespół Szkół Geodezyjno-Drogowych in Poznań (Poland) for the 10./11. School year since 2003,
- with the Haliford School in Shepperton (England) for the 7th / 8th School year since 2006.
In December 2004, the construction of a modern three-field hall with adjoining classrooms began. After a year and a half of construction, the inauguration was celebrated in August 2006.
The Holsten School has been committed to an orphanage in Benin since 2007 and the "Association for Benin" was founded on November 22, 2012, which also supports the orphanage. Every year the school organizes the "Festival for Benin", at which funds are collected for projects there.
