Europaschule (Germany)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Germany, schools in several federal states are called European schools that meet certain standards of intercultural cooperation and methodical innovation , but are subject to German state school law.

They should not be confused with the European Schools , which are sponsored by the Council of the European Union and of which three are located in Germany: the European School Munich , the European School Karlsruhe and the European School Frankfurt.

history

They were introduced by several federal states on 8 November 1991 on the basis of the recommendation of the Standing Conference on the European Dimension in Education .

criteria

There are no nationwide regulations as to what precise requirements a school must have in order to be recognized as a European school.

North Rhine-Westphalia

In North Rhine-Westphalia, the designation European School has been established since May 9, 2007 by the Ministry for Schools and Continuing Education of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia , taking into account the nationwide criteria. European schools are certified for five years with a seal of approval by the European Schools Working Group (Argeus) in the Ministry for Schools and Further Education of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. After this period they will be recertified. If a European school in North Rhine-Westphalia does not meet the criteria even after a reasonable period of adjustment, the title can be revoked.

Hesse

In Hesse there are currently 34 Hessian European schools certified by the HKM and one study seminar. These are characterized in the following way:

“The European school promotes intercultural learning processes that enable adolescents to find their own identity and to develop tolerance when encountering other cultures. She creates open spaces in which foreigners can get to know and experience; open spaces in which linguistic diversity and knowledge of other cultures develop into intercultural competence with social learning. The Europaschule works - in cooperation with all school types - on the constant process of school development, in which method learning and evaluation are integral components, and thus takes its role as an active partner in a changing society responsibly. "
