Thomas Kufus
Thomas Kufus (* 1957 in Essen ) is a German film producer .
biography
He shot Kufu's first documentaries Mein Krieg und Blockade as an autodidact. In 1990 he founded the company zero film together with Martin Hagemann in Berlin and from then on produced numerous documentaries. After the producers split up in 2006, Kufus continued his work with zero one film. From the beginning, the focus of Kufu's activity was on the production of documentaries and series. Since 2011 he has also appeared as a producer of feature films ( Who if not we , the West , The State versus Fritz Bauer ).
In addition, Kufus got involved early on in unusual television formats such as the documentary 24h Berlin - A Day in Life , shot from 2008 to 2009 , a television documentary about Berlin and its residents. a. received the German Television Award. In 2014, Arte and Bayerischer Rundfunk broadcast the follow-up project 24h Jerusalem . For this, too, zero one film received the German Television Award and Kufus the producer award of the German Academy for Television .
Kufus was chairman of the board of the German Film Academy from November 2009 to February 2015 . He has been the recipient of the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon since 2016 .
Cooperation with directors
Many projects from Kufus' production activities are based on long-term collaboration with the directors. Kufus has been co-producer of films by Russian director Aleksandr Sokurov since 1997 . a. he produced the feature films Mother and Son , Moloch , Father and Son and Francofonia .
The collaboration with the director Andres Veiel began with Black Box BRD , a documentary about the bank boss Alfred Herrhausen killed by the Red Army Fraction , which was awarded the European and German film prizes, among other things . The cooperation was u. a. with Veiel's first feature film Who if not we continued with August Diehl and Lena Lauzemis in the leading roles. Andres Veiel's documentary BEUYS about Joseph Beuys was shown in the competition at the 2017 Berlinale .
Kufus has also worked several times with the directors Corinna Belz and Regina Schilling .
