Time of Heroes is a nine-part real - time television series from 2013 . It addresses the youth craze and the difficulty of growing up and getting older in the life of the Brunner family and their friends. It was first broadcast from March 25 to 29, 2013 on Arte and on SWR television .

action

On the one hand, the series is about an average German family, which includes the 46-year-old electrical installer Arndt, his 45-year-old wife Mai, their 15-year-old son Ben and Mai's 18-year-old daughter Paulina - all called Pauli. The family is in a state of upheaval as the children move out and want to go their own way. The newly gained freedom gives parents plenty of time to reflect on their past and to deal with their future.

The neighbors, the independent 43-year-old lighting designer Gregor and the 43-year-old Sandra, senior manager at a large toy manufacturer, are also in the middle of their lives, wondering what they have already achieved and how their lives should go on. They spend a lot of time with their 43-year-old friend Christoph, who sees the childless couple as a kind of surrogate family. They have already spent many ski holidays, parties and exclusive weekends together. Over the Easter holidays, the three of them go on vacation together, on which Christoph takes the student Katharina, who works for an escort service, with him.

background

Time of Heroes was the heart of the program week “40+ Now or Never! Five days of midlife and other catastrophes ”from the SWR , which from March 25 to 29, 2013 shed light on the phenomenon of midlife crises from different perspectives. The editing was done by Martina Zöllner and Ulrich Herrmann (SWR) as well as Andreas Schreitmüller and Kornelia Theune (Arte).

The television series plays in real time, that is, narration time and narrated time coincide within the framework of a “real time fiction”. In addition, there are “snapshots” distributed throughout the day in the current television program, which briefly report on current events relating to the Brunner family. They also refer to the second platform of the story, the Internet.

Filming locations were u. a. in Altlußheim , Neulußheim , Mannheim , Weinheim , Karlsruhe and Heidelberg . The film was shot with high-light-sensitive digital cameras of the type Canon EOS C300 PL, which had recently come onto the market, and with original lighting. Usual film light was dispensed with.
