Jerry Hoffmann (born May 30, 1989 in Hamburg as Jeremias Acheampong ) is a German actor and director .

biography

Hoffmann had his first breakthrough in 2010 with the portrayal of Samir in the movie Shahada , which premiered in the competition at the 60th Berlinale and won international prizes. He studied acting at the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich and the University of the Arts in Berlin . While still a student, he was brought to the Maxim Gorki Theater . In 2013 he was nominated as Young Actor of the Year by Theater Heute . At the Munich Film Festival in 2015 he was nominated for best actor for his portrayal of Sebastian Klein in Heil . The film premiered at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival and was shown at international festivals.

In 2015 Hoffmann studied film directing at Loyola Marymount University .
In 2017 he moderated the First Steps Award together with Aylin Tezel . Amelie rennt won the German Film Award in 2018 . In addition to acting, Hoffmann devotes himself more and more to film direction.

Hoffmann appeared in Mittelreich , a highly acclaimed production by Anta Helena Recke at the Munich Kammerspiele . The play was praised and invited to the prestigious Theatertreffen in Berlin in 2018, and the director and ensemble were awarded the ITI Theater Prize in 2019.

In 2018 he will start his master's degree in film directing at the Hamburg Media School .
In 2019 he was appointed to the jury of the Max Ophüls Prize and gave a flaming and much-noticed speech to his generation on diversity in German film at the award ceremony. And in February 2019 he was a member of the jury for Perspektive Deutsches Kino as part of the Berlinale .

His first two films as a director in Hamburg, Mall & 90%, will both run in 2020 in the competition for the 41st Max Ophüls Prize.
In the summer of 2019, Hoffmann can be seen in one of the leading roles in the Coming of Age movie comedy Abikalypse , where he took on the role of Yannick alongside Lea van Acken , Lisa-Marie Koroll , Reza Brojerdi and Lucas Reiber .

In 2020 Hoffmann stood in front of the camera as the black fairytale prince in Ngo The Chau's second directorial work Die Hexenprinzessin , which will be released at Christmas 2020. He plays the leading role here alongside Jürgen Vogel , Desireé Nosbusch and Ken Duken .

In his private life, Hoffmann is committed to social issues. He belongs to various institutions as alumni, sponsor or as a member of the board of trustees.
He is a member of the German Film Academy and lives in Hamburg and Berlin.
