action

Amelie lives in Berlin and is a pretty stubborn teenager who doesn't let anyone tell her anything. The real city brat has asthma , which she usually tries to ignore, because she hates being sick, and most of all she hates the tutelage of her doctors and her parents. After a particularly bad asthma attack, Amelie has to take a cure in a rehab clinic in the South Tyrolean mountains. Here she meets 15-year-old Bart, who is actually called Bartholomew and is “herd manager”, which means that he rules a group of cows. After escaping from the clinic, Amelie dares an adventurous mountain climb with Bart's help. After initial arguments between the farm boy and the girl from the big city, Amelie soon notices that Bart is much more interesting than she initially thought.

Reviews

Britta Schmeis from epd Film says that the hiking road movie does not have anything too surprising in store, but instead has two great leading actors, the breathtaking backdrop of the Dolomites and the finely arranged music by Tobias Kuhn . According to Schmeis, director Tobias Wiemann's staging is so funny and empathetic at the same time that one or the other break is quickly forgiven.

From the German Film and Media Review was Amelie runs with the predicate particularly valuable provided. The reasoning states: “The film hits exactly the tone in which the young people talk to each other and to adults (big difference) and the contradicting, provocative and radical behavior of Amelie is portrayed with the same empathy. [...] The film is brilliantly cast right down to the supporting roles ( Jasmin Tabatabai as a clinician) and Mia Kasalo in the title role manages to maintain a subtle balance between aggressiveness and melancholy, defiance and vulnerability, contempt for death and hunger for life. "

Use in school lessons

In September 2017, Amelie rennt was presented by kinofenster.de as “Film of the Month”. The online portal also offers materials on the film for use in lessons. There the media educator Stefan Stiletto writes, especially in the first scenes, Amelie rennt makes visible what life with a chronic illness such as asthma means: “Amelie's sudden respiratory arrest is staged extremely dramatically, which almost leads to her death, and with it too her two classmates cannot handle. Amelie prefers not to call them friends because she is firmly convinced that they only deal with her out of pity. ”At the same time, the film depicts the social impact of the disease and also illuminates the shame that is associated with it for Amelie. says Stiletto, because she wanted to prevent Bart from seeing how she was suffering from shortness of breath on the ascent: "Her illness is a flaw that she - especially in the puberty phase - cannot use at all."

In spring 2019, the film was presented as part of the SchulKinoWochen in Baden-Württemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria.
