Thomas Loibl (* 1969 in Brüggen ) is a German actor .

Life

Education and theater

Loibl completed an acting training at the Westphalian Drama School in Bochum .

He received his first engagement at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus ; He was there from 1994 to 1996 and worked with directors Werner Schroeter and Urs Troller , among others . From 1996 to 1998 he was engaged at the Volkstheater in Munich , where he appeared in the drama Die Glasmenagerie in 1997/1998 under the direction of Wolfgang Maria Bauer . This was followed by further engagements at the Schauspielhaus Zurich (1998) and at the State Theater Stuttgart (1998–2000). In the 1998/99 season he played Shylock in Lessing's Dream of Nathan the Wise by Elmar Goerden ; the Berliner Zeitung praised the “great cast” of the role with Thomas Loibl. Loibl's other roles at the Staatstheater Stuttgart (also directed by Elmar Goerden) were: the station director Thomas Hudetz in the play The Youngest Day by Ödön von Horváth in the 1999/2000 season and the detective Stader in the play Die Schwärmer by Robert Musil ( also season 1999/2000). In the 2000/01 season he appeared at the Münchner Kammerspiele in the role of Petrik in the play The Parasites by Marius von Mayenburg (director: Florian Boesch).

From 2001 to 2009 Loibl was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Bavarian State Theater . His most important roles there were: Parzival in The Game from Questions by Peter Handke (premiere: October 2001 in the Residenztheater ; director: Elmar Goerden), Robert in Das Friedensfest by Gerhart Hauptmann (premiere: December 2002 in the Residenztheater; director: Thomas Langhoff ), Sergeant / Lahoussine in the walls of Jean Genet (Premiere: March 2003 Residenz Theater, directed by Dieter Dorn ), Lucio in measure for measure (Premiere: May 2004 at the Residenz Theater, directed by Dieter Dorn), the title role in Theodore, Duke of Gotland by Christian Dietrich Grabbe (premiere: October 2004 in the Residenztheater; director: Tina Lanik ), Oskar in Tales from the Vienna Woods (premiere: October 2005 in the Residenztheater; director: Barbara Frey ), Robert Dudley in Maria Stuart (premiere: January 2006 in Residenztheater; director: Amélie Niermeyer ), the secretary Camille Chandebise in Flea in the ear of Georges Feydeau (premiere: October 2006 in the Residenztheater; director: Dieter Dorn). In the role of the secretary Chandebise, Loibl performed “true language acrobatics”; he "acted as a star in the scenes." Loibl's other roles at the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel were: George Garga in Im Thicket of Cities (premiere: November 2007 at the Residenztheater; director: Tina Lanik), Oronte in Der Misanthrop (premiere: April 2008 at the Residenztheater ; Direction: Hans-Joachim Ruckhäberle ) and Kalaf in Turandot by Friedrich Schiller (Premiere: July 2009 in the Residenztheater; Direction: Jens-Daniel Herzog ).

In July 2005 Loibl also appeared at the Salzburg Festival as Oskar in Horváth's play Tales from the Vienna Woods . He has been working as a freelance actor since 2009. In 2010 he made a guest appearance at the Cologne Theater . In the 2012/13 season he was a guest at the Schauspielhaus Zürich as Philinte in Barbara Frey's Molière production Der Menschenfeind . In the 2013/14 season he was a permanent member of the ensemble there; there he took on the role of Florindo in Barbara Frey's production of Goldoni's The Servant of Two Masters .

In 2015 he appeared as a guest at the Residenztheater Munich , as Domitius Enobarbus in Antonius and Cleopatra in a new production of the play by Thomas Dannemann . Since 2016 he has been a permanent member of the ensemble at the Residenztheater Munich. In the 2016/17 season he took over there a. a. the title role in Iwanow (directed by Martin Kušej ) and the role of the farmer John Proctor in witch hunt (directed by Tina Lanik ). In the 2016/17 season he also took on the title role in Andreas Kriegenburg's Macbeth production from January 2017 . From March 2017 he played the role of the transsexual Elvira Weishaupt based on Fassbinder's film In a year with 13 moons , in a production by the Polish director Aureliusz Śmigiel .

Movie and TV

Loibl is mainly active as a theater actor and stage actor. However, since 2005 he has also taken on various roles in film and television. He has since worked in over 50 film and television productions.

In the two-part television film God's mighty servant (2011), Loibl had one of the leading roles as the Roman Catholic Father Andreas. In the cinema comedy Summer in Orange (2011) he played the role of the charismatic Bhagwan top guru Prem Bramama. In the fairy tale film Die Sterntaler (2011) he played the role of the king. In the feature film End of the Closed Season (2012) he played the "village Nazi " Walter, the best friend of the Black Forest farmer Fritz. In the novel adaptation Die Vermessung der Welt (2012) he had a small role as a barber.

Awards

In 2004 he received the Bavarian Art Prize for the Performing Arts and the Kurt Meisel Prize . In 2010 Loibl was one of the winners of the Kurt Meisel Prize of the Association of Friends of the Bavarian State Theater for his contribution to the children's book theater series . In 2017 he received the Kurt Meisel Prize again.
