Strong Shoulders is a TV film from the ARD crime series Polizeiruf 110 . The film was produced on behalf of the MDR and was broadcast for the first time on Sunday, March 25, 2018 on Das Erste . It is the eighth case for the Magdeburg investigator Doreen Brasch and the third case with her partner Dirk Köhler .

action

The successful building contractor Rene Ottmann barely survived a night arson attack. Ottmann is quite relaxed about the situation and Commissioner Brasch has the feeling that the man is not very shaken by the attack on his life. Together with her colleague Köhler, she investigates the controversial man's environment and very quickly finds the first suspect. After an undeserved resignation, Uwe Schneider messed with Ottmann and attacked him with a knife. When the investigators want to question him, he runs away and seizes Koehler's weapon. It is therefore to be feared that Schneider is now trying to end his plan with the pistol. Brasch then goes to Ottmann in order to be able to protect him immediately. Although he refuses personal protection, she is still observing him. Her close relationship with Ottmann's sister-in-law Susan Dietrich is noticeable. Her sister was Ottmann's wife and died five years ago in an avalanche accident. Susan's son Carsten is also often seen at Ottmann's. Since the car that was seen by witnesses in front of Ottmann's house on the night of the arson attack can be identified as that of the Dietrichs, Commissioner Brasch is concentrating her investigation on this family. Axel Dietrich is a jeweler and has not been able to work since his shop was attacked. During her observations, Brasch notices that Susan Dietrich meets regularly with her brother-in-law. Although Axel Dietrich has been informed of this relationship, which allegedly has existed for two years, and tolerates it, he has the strongest motive for the commissioner. Before she can continue following this lead, Uwe Schneider suddenly appears and voluntarily turns himself in to the police. He apparently realizes his mistake and admits the arson attack. But all of this seems very questionable to Köhler. It looks like someone paid Schneider for this confession. Köhler researched in this direction and was able to prove via Schneider's wife that her husband received a large sum of money from an unknown patron. So cornered, Schneider claims to have been paid by Ottmann for his false statement. For Köhler, this begs the question of who Ottmann wants to protect.

Commissioner Brasch found out that the decisive point in the Ottmann-Dietrich constellation was the attack on the jewelry store, because there was a dead person at the time, which was not known because Susan Dietrich Ottmann had asked for help and he was about the “disposal “The corpse had taken care of. Since that time Ottmann had the Dietrichs in hand and to escape this impasse Susan saw the arson attack as the last resort. Both Susan Dietrich and Ottman are arrested.

Personally, Commissioner Brasch struggles with her work discipline. An expert was invited to provide psychological support to help both Brasch and her colleague Köhler get along better. Brasch rejects them completely and refuses to let them look into their soul life. Her deep-seated distrust of other people does not stop at the psychologist Niklas Wilke. This, in turn, is very clever and can win Brasch's trust. She tells him how she has neglected her son in the past because of sheer zeal for service, so that today, at 23, he no longer wants to have anything to do with her and she is left without family and friends.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv wrote: “The idea of adding a criminal psychologist to the Magdeburg“ Polizeiruf ”trio is the best that those responsible could come up with for developing the MDR offshoot. Even if in the first half of "Strong Shoulders" (filmpool fiction) the entertaining professional relationship box of the inspectors just overlooks the crime banter, psychology now gains the upper hand in the second half of the crime plot and takes care of it extremely bizarre situations. "

At the SZ , Katharina Riehl judged: “[…] and there was a time when you could have the impression, mainly because of Matthias Brandt in Munich and Charly Huebner and Anneke Kim Sarnau in Rostock, that the police call was qualitatively overtaking the crime scene. The episodes from Magdeburg could never really confirm this thesis. "

Christian Buß from Spiegel Online assessed: “Even after the first episodes of the Saxony-Anhalt TV district, frustration set in. In Magdeburg there has been a coming, going and stupid standing around in the action since the beginning. Everyone seems very unhappy here - not only the investigators, who are designed as extreme antipodes and paralyze rather than fertilize themselves, but also with the actresses who embody them. "

Audience ratings

The first broadcast of Strong Shoulders on March 25, 2018 was seen by 7.84 million viewers in Germany and achieved a market share of 21.7% for Das Erste .
