Marco Sassella

Marco Sassella (born January 6,  1976 in Sorengo ) is a former Swiss basketball player .

career

Sassella played as a youth at BC Vedeggio and Federale Lugano. In the 1993/94 season he made his debut in the National League in the shirt of SAM Basket Massagno .

From 1994 to 1998, the 1.95 meter tall winger and winger played and studied at Fort Hays State University in the United States . Following his return to Switzerland, he played for SAV Vacallo from 1998 to 2000.

Between 2000 and 2003 he was in the service of the Lugano Snakes , won the Swiss championship title with the team in 2001 and 2002 and took part in the EuroLeague . Sassella left Lugano during the 2002/03 season and moved within the national league to basket club Boncourt , with whom he won the championship title in spring 2003. In 2004 he was again champion with Boncourt. He stayed with the club until the end of the 2004/05 season. During the 2005/06 season he returned to Lugano and, at the end of his professional career, was once again Swiss champion in spring 2006.

In the summer of 2010 he joined the Swiss Basketball Federation as a member of the central board and was responsible for performance basketball.

National team

Sassella was a top performer in the Swiss national team for years and took part in the selection rounds for European championships.
