Josef Rusnak

Josef Rusnak (born November 25, 1958 ) is a German film director and screenwriter .

Career

The film Cold Fever , shot in 1984, marks Rusnak's debut as a director and writer. In the same year he was awarded the German Film Prize for best director . He then worked for French television and directed episodes of television series.

In 1997 he made two more feature films with Unconditionally - In the Net of Passion and The Way We Are . In the latter, Hilary Swank took the lead role. Also in 1997, Rusnak directed Die Schwadron, an episode of the Schimanski crime series . Two years later followed with the production of The 13th Floor - Are you what you think? probably his most famous film, in which he was also involved as a screenwriter. For Roland Emmerich , who produced this work, Rusnak had worked as a second-unit-director on his film version of Godzilla in 1998.

It wasn't until 2007 that Rusnak directed his next film. The result was the direct-to-DVD production The Contractor - Double Game with Wesley Snipes in the lead role. In 2008, The Art of War II: The Treason followed, another collaboration between the two. Also in 2008, It's Alive, a remake of the horror film The Cradle of Evil by Larry Cohen . Two further productions followed in 2010. This is how the film drama Valerie with Franka Potente in the leading role came about .

Rusnak is a founding member of the German Film Academy and has owned the American production company "Jump Cut Images, Inc." since 1992. in Los Angeles, and since 2000 partner of the Munich-based "Screencraft Entertainment GmbH".

Private life

Rusnak lives alternately in Berlin and Los Angeles . From 1995 to summer 2001 he was married to the German actress Claudia Michelsen . The couple have a daughter, the German-American actress Lisa Rusnak, (* 1998).
