Berlin, I Love You
Berlin, I Love You is an episode film that was released in the US on February 8, 2019 and was released in German cinemas on August 8, 2019. The episode film is set in Berlin and tells various love stories. Each episode was shot by a different director, including Fernando Eimbcke , Dennis Gansel , Tom Van Avermaet , Ai Weiwei , Til Schweiger and Josef Rusnak .
The film is the third , after Paris, je t'aime and New York, I Love You, in the Cities of Love series of films brought to life by producer Emmanuel Benbihy . With it "the universality of love in and to metropolises and their inhabitants around the globe should be discussed".

Berlin, I Love You was produced on the same principle as the previous films Paris, je t'aime from 2006, New York, I Love You from 2008 and Rio, I Love You from 2014, in which A wide variety of international filmmakers shot short films on site, which were then merged into a film about the respective city. It was previously known that Fernando Eimbcke , Dennis Gansel , Tom Van Avermaet and Ai Weiwei would direct. Weiwei had already filmed his episode as part of the Berlinale 2015 by remote directing via Skype from China.
The Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg granted production funding of 300,000 euros and an additional 80,000 euros for the episode of Weiwei.
Like the previous films, Berlin, I Love You has an international cast. The British actors Keira Knightley , Helen Mirren , Jim Sturgess and Emily Beecham , the Welsh actor Iwan Rheon , the Mexican actor Diego Luna , the Canadian actors Charlotte Le Bon and Nolan Gerard Funk , the Americans Jenna Dewan and Luke play among others Wilson , Dianna Agron and Mickey Rourke , the German actresses Veronica Ferres , Sibel Kekilli and Hannelore Elsner as well as the German model Toni Garrn in individual episodes.
While Ai was already filming his episode via Skype from China as part of the Berlinale 2015, the other episodes were filmed in Berlin in 2017. On February 17, 2019, Ai Weiwei announced that his contribution to the film had been cut out, otherwise he would not be able to take part in the 2019 Berlinale; in addition, a follow-up project Shanghai I love you would otherwise be endangered. Ai Weiwei said: "The festival told them if Ai Weiwei is in there the film can never be accepted."
The film was originally scheduled to hit German cinemas on November 22, 2018. A first trailer was finally presented in mid-January 2019. The film was finally released in German cinemas on August 8, 2019.
