action

Annie Frieding is convinced that her marriage has stalled after sixteen happy years and wants to change that, while her husband Ralf sees it differently and ignores her wish to seek help from a therapist. When Annie was spending a wellness weekend with her friend Tine Konradi , she met the dark-skinned fitness trainer Raimund Adjey, with whom she got involved in a one-night stand .

Some time later Annie learns that she is pregnant from Raimund. Since she is for absolute openness, Annie now confesses the affair to her husband Ralf and also confesses to him that that night resulted in a pregnancy. Ralf feels offended and says he can't stand it any longer and spends the night with their mutual friends Tine and Nils Konradi. When Annie told Ralf on the other day that she would definitely have the child, that she simply couldn't let it go and asked him if he could imagine raising it with her, this unconventional solution went too far for him and the end the song is that he moves out. Annie, who works as a nurse in a fertility clinic, couldn't decide otherwise, as she is confronted every day with what couples do to fulfill their wish to have a child. Cora, the couple's 15-year-old daughter, however, to Annie's delight, assures her mother of support.

Annie decides to at least tell Raimund that she is expecting a child from him. She just wants him to know, she won't make any claims on him. Annie also has a problem with her friend Tine, who has been trying everything with her husband for five years to get pregnant and doesn't want to understand that Annie got pregnant the first time.

All of a sudden, Raimund, who has been dismissed due to the relationship with a guest, stands in front of Annie's door and spends the night in the guest room. He wants to take care of his child. When he is about to move in with a friend over the quarrels that follow that morning, Annie asks him to stay. That in turn triggers discussions with her daughter. Ralf has since filed for divorce and got involved with another woman, his colleague Sandra. Since Annie is afraid of losing her daughter if Raymond stays, the parents-to-be decide that he will move out.

Ultimately, however, Annie and Ralf find each other again. After Annie has given birth to her child, they all celebrate a barbecue in the garden, to which Raimund and his new girlfriend are invited. Annie's and Raimund's little son is the focus of attention.

background

Wolfgang Grundmann, editor of the main editorial office for television films at HR, wrote about the character of Annie that she was "a woman who at first didn't seem to fit into this time." "In an era in which everything seems to be negotiable" - truth, friendship, love, the decision for or against a child - "Annie is" firm and completely immovable to the values that underlie her world "and take over" Responsibility for their actions ”. So she stands by her feelings when she cheated on her husband with a fitness trainer and also to the truth “when she also included her husband in the knowledge of her unwanted pregnancy” and for the child “nothing for the complications in her life “And decide his right to life. Also follow her heart when she decides against the father of her child. "In her sincerity and clarity" Annie is "in principle not a comic figure, but a deeply serious one - but precisely for that reason an exciting comedy figure".

Bernadette Heerwagen described her role as follows: “Annie and Ralf are in a crisis - that's how Annie sees it. Their relationship fell asleep, they have had next to no sex for three years and are bogged down in their everyday lives. Annie wants out, wants them to look for help, but is left alone with her request. ”When asked why Annie was getting involved in a one-night stand, Heerwagen replied that it was a short-circuit reaction. Annie wanted to "feel" herself again. That was not a question of reason, but "rather a gut decision". She always understands the characters she plays, because they did not act as they did without a reason. That is the exciting thing about her work. Even if she might not act that way personally, she "ideally always gets so close" to her characters that their actions are somehow understandable.

Thomas Loibl said about his role that Ralf ignored the warning signals that those around him were sparing him for a while. The relationship with his daughter is very good and loving, but he doesn't mind that she slowly goes her own way. His marriage to Annie, which was "initially full of humor and with many similarities," has become a habit over time. The passion has been lost. He tries to evade the questions that would arise and that Annie asks him and feel pressured. He used Annie's infidelity to "throw himself into a victim role" and to save himself injured in allegations. Ralf moves out to gain some distance, "which is certainly also wise at first" is "in such situations". In order to restore his self-esteem, he starts an affair himself and finds answers to the unresolved questions that have long arisen. “And above all, that you can't put a love in a moving box and store it somewhere”.

Eugene Boateng said that Raimund was life-affirming and spontaneous. He is also creative and responsible. Integrity also plays an important role for him. He takes time for reflection and always makes his decisions "with a moral compass". The sincerity of his figure is "admirable". Although Annie makes no demands on Raimund, he feels obliged to his child. His growing love for Annie and his desire for a family added to his motivation. It is also important to him to pass on the culture, which takes his Ghanaian background into account, to his child. He could understand Raimund's behavior very well. He explicitly accepted the role because he saw the chance to present a positive example within the context of a bi-ethnic child.

Rita Russek, who played Doris Baumann, the mother of the title character, said that Doris, like many women of her generation, was “defiantly determined to bite through alone”. Her 'fight' probably made her adamant. However, Doris then learns from her daughter "that the unforeseen, the chance, the seemingly unthinkable is enriching".

criticism

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm said that Martin Enlen's film was “more of a marriage drama than a relationship comedy”. Even if “a few laughs are provided”, “the basic tone remains rather serious”. Bernadette Heerwagen plays “the woman at the crossroads with her typical naturalness. The rest of the cast “couldn't keep up”. And “that in the end everything dissolves headlong into pleasure”, happens “probably only on TV”. The thumb went to the side for the film, for humor and suspense it received one of three possible points and the summary: “Likeable, but not really convincing”.

The Hamburger Abendblatt was of the opinion that although the film was designed as a comedy, it “feels like a drama for a long time.” At most, “Annie's mother and her in-laws, who get carried away with cynical sayings in the face of the confusing situation, were responsible for comedy “Left. Otherwise, "the tone remains mostly serious". The film raises questions about “moral behavior” and tries to “draw the characters in such a way that they come very close to the ideal”. As “praiseworthy as such exemplary acting people are in the real world”, “for a fictional film” they prove to be “not exactly an advantage”. Because they had “no real weaknesses”, they appeared “one-dimensional” and were “difficult to distinguish from one another”. Last but not least, the plot suffered from this, "which lacks both tension and real conflict".

Also Tilmann P. Gangloff said in the Berliner Morgenpost , the "Title addition defiance" was the film "not happy comedy but only seemingly cheerful drama." Lorenz and Enlen told the story "relatively realistic and therefore only partially funny". The film exudes "with its friendly warm colors [...] at least visually the cozy atmosphere of a feelgood movie". The dialogues are "realistic and understandable, especially since Lorenz takes her main characters seriously without exception". Only the annoying parents were moving "on the edge of the caricature".

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv gave the film 4½ out of six possible stars and praised it in summary: “'Annie - upside down into life' [...] is not a stereotypical remarriage comedy. Rather, author Lorenz works on the subject of love, the forms of coexistence, and does not save the limits of monogamy and the, for many, unrealistic 'Until death do us part'. The (tragic) comic story, which analyzes the behavior of the title character well, has a dramatic core - and a double bottom! Anyone who wants to can read the happy ending - despite having a child as the result of an affair - as the epitome of an amorous confession. But if you take a closer look, you might have your doubts about the praise of romantic love. The fact that the film offers several readings is part of the special quality of this life-wise comedy in addition to the casual alternation between pointed and serious dialogues, in addition to Heerwagen & Loibl and the top cast down to the smallest roles. "Tittelbach also praised the" life-wise script by Dominique Lorenz " that offers "a change from pointed and serious dialogues". There was also talk of a “top-class cast” who “contributed to the special quality of this family-friendly ZDF television film”.
