occupation

Die Tote im Weiher is a German TV film by Sherry Hormann from the TV crime series Spreewaldkrimi from 2014.

Inspector Thorsten Krüger leads the suicide of a young mother to an almost statute-barred case of negligent homicide.

action

The aspiring provincial politician Charlie Matzke is being treated by the psychotherapist Jenny Trumaschek. He has fearful dreams and has a bad relationship with his son Hagen. He suffers from this and has therefore sought professional help. As soon as his therapy session is over, Inspector Thorsten Krüger appears to the therapist to clarify the death of Carola Kubitz, who was recently recovered from a pond in the Spreewald. She was also being treated by Jenny Trumaschek for a psychosis, and so Krüger hopes to get clues as to whether the young woman has actually committed suicide. That is quite obvious, because five years ago she lost her nine-month-old daughter in a car accident. Since she was behind the wheel, the sensitive woman blamed herself for it.

During the autopsy, forensic doctor Marlene Seefeldt discovers hallucinogenic substances that are very likely to come from mushrooms. For Krüger this is not surprising, because a mother who loses her child suffers unduly. But it seems to him that Carola Kubitz may not want to forget because of the drug, but wanted to remember. So he investigates the accident more closely and comes to the conclusion that there must have been a second car. He talks to the psychotherapist about whether her patient may have given any information about this, but does not get any further. In contrast, the village policeman Fichte remembers that at the time of the accident, the mayor's company car was stolen. It was believed that the car was being transported across the nearby border to Poland and had therefore not looked for it any further.

Krüger is investigating the theft again and questioning Charlie Matzke, who, according to the logbook, was the last to drive the car. At first it weighs down, but mentally collapses the next day . Obviously, his fearful dreams are based on what happened on the night of the accident. He was traveling with the company car and in the dark, rainy night he saw Carola Kubitz's car too late, so she had to avoid him and hit a tree.

Jenny Trumaschek knew of Matzke's guilt, but did not dare to break the doctor's secret. The fact that she was also treating Carola Kubitz made the situation almost unbearable for her too.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv judged: “'Die Tote im Weiher' is a dramaturgically complex, emotionally touching, eerily beautiful TV tragedy about fear, guilt, forgiveness, love and the loss of memory. A film of autumnal feelings, which above all offers the friend of German romanticism head food and impresses with its hallucinogenic image montages, which thematize the motif of memory in an almost self-referential way. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm wrote: “The viewer is always one step ahead of Krüger, but the psychologically sophisticated case is still captivating until the end. In cleverly mounted flashbacks, Sherry Hormann (' desert flower ') reveals the destructive power of (provincial) political power strivings. ”They concluded:“ Filmed in a noble way - and more profound than the Spree ”.
