Hans-Joachim Erwe

Hans-Joachim Erwe (born July 21, 1956 in Bochum ; † November 9, 2014 in Fröndenberg / Ruhr ) was a German music teacher and musicologist .

Scientific career

After graduating from the Otto Hahn Gymnasium in Herne , Erwe completed a teaching degree at the University of Osnabrück with the subjects of music education and German studies. He studied historical and systematic musicology at the University of Hamburg . He received his doctorate with a thesis on music based on Eduard Mörike , which was published in 1987. Erwe completed his legal clerkship at the Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium in Friesoythe . Until 1993 he worked as a teacher at the comprehensive school Fröndenberg. After working as a research assistant and academic advisor at the University of Hildesheim, Erwe worked at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal , initially as a substitute professor from 2001 to 2003, and after his appointment in 2003 as a university professor for music education.

Main areas of activity

Erwe conducted research in both the field of music education and historical musicology. The focus of his work was the didactics and methodology of music lessons in general schools as well as the music history of the late 19th and 20th centuries, especially in the field of literature and music. There are also works on popular music and music psychology. Erwe also worked as a practical musician and choir director.
