Sophie von Kessel (born October 12, 1968 in Mexico City ) is a German actress .

Life and career

Von Kessel was born as a diplomat's daughter in Mexico in 1968 and lived as a child in Latin America , Finland , Austria , Germany and the USA . Among other things, she attended the Otto Kühne School in Bonn , studied acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna from 1988 to 1992 , including one year at the Juilliard School in New York , and in 1995 attended a workshop with Uta Hagen in Berlin . After years at the Stadttheater Aachen and the Schauspiel Köln, von Kessel was an ensemble member of the Münchner Kammerspiele from 1997 to 2001 . In 1999 she received the Bavarian State Prize for Young Artists.

Von Kessel was part of Dieter Dorn's ensemble at the Münchner Kammerspiele for many years . At the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel in Munich she was seen together with Juliane Köhler in Three Times the Life of Yasmina Reza .

Shortly after graduating, she became known to the television audience through her leading role in the ARD series Schloß Hohenstein, which was broadcast from 1992 to 1995 . She worked in numerous other series and films. In 1999 she starred in the television film Camino de Santiago alongside Charlton Heston , and in the French television series Frank Riva (2003) she played the leading female role alongside Alain Delon . In 1999 she also occupied the role of the count's daughter Aliena in the radio play The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett . As an ensemble member of the television film The Conference , she received the Hessian Television Prize in 2005 .

In 2008 and 2009 she played the Buhlschaft im Jedermann by Hugo von Hofmannsthal at the Salzburg Festival . She has been a member of the Munich Residenztheater ensemble since 2011 .

Von Kessel and the actor Stefan Hunstein have a daughter and a son. They split in 2011 after ten years of relationship. One of her cousins ​​is the church musician Silvius von Kessel . Her sister Julie von Kessel reported live for ZDF as one of the first television reporters of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 .
